Photographer’s Note
Denmark has the distinction of being one of the first countries in the world to recognize the importance of its heritage. However it was not possible to save the pier of Cathrinesminde tile- and brickworks (one of my previous postings) at Flensborg Fjord in the Danish German border region. But it still is a distinctive coastal structure.
As already mentioned, most regions in Denmark have easy access to the water and so it was a great advantage for the tile-works to be near the sea, because a couple of hundred years ago transportation by ship was cheaper and easier than transportation across the land. From here the tiles were even transported to the Danish colonies. The local fishermen who have built the three huts, where they keep their bits and pieces, today use what once had been the pier as a beaten path. When you pass by this place on a Saturday afternoon you will almost be in a daze by the aromatic smell of smoked fish since one of these huts also serves as a smoking chamber.

Hi Harriet,
The frozen ground reminds us of the winter, but this beautiful light brings warm and very nice colors. A beautiful and restful composition, I love the depth of the image and contrast. Well done Harriet and thank you for the note.

Harriet,
I like that you use the path to lead us into the scenery to the baots and distant poles with birds on each one of them, very subtle color and tone, beautiful and natural as always. Thanks

Hello Harriet,
Very nice shot, in lovely light. If that pathway could speak it must have thousands of stories, what a shame that a piece of history can be left to just fade away like this.
Your composition is first class, the frame balances nicely using the path, the boats and the far off mountains.
Thank you for an informative note.

Hi Harriet,
hmmmmm... the POV is excellent. The distant shore almost disappeared in the mist! To me this landscape seems very gloomy even despite a bit of the sunshine... Maybe it's just because of the winter time when Nature simply hibernates while awaiting for spring time.
I like the mood which you captured very well here.
..and as always, your photos go so well with the interesting notes to them!
Warm greetings,
Elena

Dear Harriet,
you took the maximum from your walk in the frozen country. I comment what you had in your camera after. The long path on the right is like the long spring's dream...

Hello Harriet,
The fantastic light and the traces of frost give this clever composition a special atmosphere. At this time of the year this looks like a very lonely place.

Ciao dear Harriet,
excellent POV whose perspective gives a pleasant depth to the image. I like a lot the soft tones of color that melt the sea with the horizon, giving a beautiful atmosphere. You have really done a beautiful composition, compliment!

Hey Harriet,
Smoked salmon. That`s what I think of when I look at this picture. Or any good fish. It looks to me as though they capture tasty fish here. Dunno. The ambient and the symmetry (the fog in the distance and the road) are both very nice. Love this kinda a sceneries.
Best regards.

Hi Harriet, I have just walked down this path the you have so well described, the fresh crisp air & the smell of smoked fish has made me hungry, hungry enough to keep this brief & have some lunch, it now just passed midday here. ;-)), Beautiful atmosphere you have captured mainly due to the soft colour, light, & the distant mist.
Well done

Bonjour Harriet,
un paysage un peu terne mais d'une grandé étendue, sans doute bien typique de ce qu'on peut voir là-bas. Région plane et maritime.
Sans doutre pas les meilleures conditions de lumières au moment de la prise de vue.
Amicalement.
Daniel.

You have put the well-trodden path to good use in your composition to lead the eye to the fisherman's huts so we can buy some smoked fish. :D The frost, the mist and the sun combine well to help create a special winter atmosphere.

Hallo Harriet!
Grüße aus dem frisch verschneiten Westfalen!

Hi Harriet,
The winter mist and depth of the long earthen quay give this coastal landscape a fine brooding quality.
The small wooden vessels harken a simpler time and the misty outline of the distant village a stark winter feel.
Fine note about the local history of this lovely Danish harbor town.

Hi Harriet.
Very interesting, evocative note to accompany an equally evocative picture of winter stillness and haziness. You composed it well to provide such detail close-up of the frosty grass and a delightful little group of becalmed boats. Very atmospheric.

Hello Harriet,
You have used the vehicle of this pathway as a stong lead towards the distant boats and huts, and achieved a great feeling of depth.
Good details in the f/g which contrasts well with the grey, misty land in the distance.
The whole scene captures an amazing calmness.
Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Harriet,
The diagonal testifies to your attention to make a rigorous framing. The light is that one hour favourable. The boats are the attractive element, the colors are very pleasant. I like.
Have a nice day

Hi Harriet,
A beautiful photo, cleverly composed using the land strip as a lead-in into the BG. The light is particularly wonderful, I adore the mix of the faint sun with the thin frost, the mix of cold and warm tones.
It's interesting how you show us the relation of the image with the Danish heritage.
Regards, José.

Hello Harriet
Good pov with the frosty track leading our eyes to the boats and huts. I have a feeling of isolation here although I am sure this is not the case? This photo works well with the horizon at the 2/3rd mark. Tfs, Marlene

Very good use of perspective with the path, which leads to the vanishing point of the two shacks there. The idle boats look good in fine mellow light. A very informative note as well to boot. Well done!
