Photographer’s Note

We are still at the Baltic Sea. The lagoon of Loddenhoj is also located on Lojt Land peninsula at the Little Belt north of Aabenraa Fjord. Loddenhoj is never crowded, because you don't find much infrastructure here apart from a recreation center for teacher, some holiday cottages, one kiosk and a small campsite.
In the beginning of the last century places like this were called "Sommerfrische" in Germany and South Denmark was part of Germany at that time. You can't adapt that expression although the dictionary translates it into "summer resort". Sommerfrische is a rural place far away from the busy cities (in the mountains or at the sea) where exhausted citizens who could afford it spent the whole(!)sommer getting pleasure from nature. The joy of primitve house keeping is also characteristic for Sommerfrische. It is a life style long ago!
Today's people would hardly survive a Sommerfrische due to lack of food. You can see the eel-buckets lying in the grass because there are not many eels left in the Baltic Sea. And Sommerfrische has been replaced by "wellness".

Ein richtiges Stillleben (...tun die 3 "l" nicht weh !?). Mir gefallen besonders das Gefühl von Weite und Meer und das großartige Licht. Die englische Erklärung von Sommerfrische ist einfach Klasse! ;-)

I like your concept of Sommerfrische. But for today's Europeans I guess that a whole summer isn't affordable. Maybe it can be just Wochenendefrische :-/

Again you show well the still wild aspect of this region. No construction, the traces of the activity of fishing with nets and flags. We feel the peace and we want to join people on the pontoon.

Hello Harriet,

Although a place of quiet retreat, and though there is only one person in view, the photograph seems busy.
All the items on view belong to fishing. It reminds me of the seaside of long ago when the sea meant fishing as well as leisure.

A great atmoshere! I can almost smell the salt and hear the gentle splashing of the waves.

Very peaceful coastal image of these lovely fishing vessels and their gear. I love how the dock is curves towards the vivid blue sea bringing excellent depth to this lovely ocean landscape.

Hi Harriet,
You captured very nice clarity of colors and the eel nets add interesting shapes. I looked at your photo and thought, "Eel nets, it must be Denmark." But I didn't realize the eeel were fished out. Seems like the dwindling supply of seafood is a worldwide problem.

Lovely clear and colourful shot of 2 of my favourite subjects: the sea and boats! Just a minor point - I would've cropped out half the sky to place more emphasis on the foreground and middle distance subjects. And maybe a polariser might have enriched the colours even more. Keep up the good work!

Hello Harriet.
I like this view of a Baltic coast beach. It has many things in it, but it has a focal point and conveys a good idea of a foreign beach a very long way from the beaches I am familiar with. The sharpness is just perfect and the exposure has given the scene very natural colours. Perhaps the red upturned boat could be a little to the left and a bit of the sky could be cropped. But all the same it's a very appealing photo and your notes are interesting.

Lovely daily life scene from the Baltic Sea. Love the setting of the fisherman landing where men work hard for a hummble living of our mother nature gift. Very charming and lovely compositon and POV. I really like it for it show the way of life in such fishing town. thanks so much.

Hello Harriet,
I saw this randomly shown picture that I didn't notice before. I just felt a need to point out that the atmosphere of spring, with a lot of expectations of the coming summer, is very strong, even though the place is almost empty of people. All these boats, nets and other equipment indicate that a lot of activities are going on in preparations for summer. The colours and light management are very good.
