Mennesket ved Havet

These 9-m high statues sit on the waterfront looking westward in the southern part of Jutland. The artist is Svend Wiig Hansen a Danish Expressionist (1922-1997). The sculptures were constructed in 1995. They are made of concrete.

Esbjerg is Denmark's fifth largest city with a population of 71,000. It was founded in 1868 as an export harbor for the local farmers after Denmark lost the Schleswig and Holstein regions to Germany.

Hello William! Interesting sculptures, fantastic sky with just a little bit of blue but otherwise it seems to be a pretty windy day, it does look cold. Very good that you have included some people, maybe I would have liked that the two had come to a stop too but on the other hand there is some movement against the sculptures which is nice too. Hello William,
These are very interesting sculptures, looking great against this dramatic sky from your low POV. The two persons balance the sculptures well and provide a good idea of the dimensions. I also like their movements and the postures of their bodies, indicating that this was a rather windy and chilly day.

Very nice composition. For some reason the people appear to be drawn to the statues, but reluctantly. It is like they are pulling back, but they are being sucked in. Very interesting. I really like the contrast of the white against the dark. The statues really appear to be some sort of god. Well done.
