After leaving the Sorlandet in Kristiansand, I took a night ferry to cross the Baltic to Danemark and, having to choose between staying there to visit Copenhagen or continuing further, I finally made up my mind for a short stay in Hamburg.
During the travel, I stopped in Aalborg in Denmark, had a short walk out of the station during a change in train, and find this interesting old house. I posted it yesterday, but located it wrongly in Germany until Lars corrected me. Howver, since it is not possible to change the country of a post here, I have decided to delete the previous post and make a new one...

Jens Bang's Stonehouse on Østerågade.
The house has five stories - it naturally had to have one more than all the other houses - and has enclosed shops, storage and apartment. Jens Bang's Stonehouse is considered the most beautiful middle-class Renaissance house in Northern Europe. The ground floor has been rebuilt several times, but otherwise the remaining house is in its original shape. The apartment on the first floor was the only area presented to the public. Here, Jens Bang had put all of his treasures and valuable belongings on display. The rest of the house was relatively sparsely furnished.
The house was built in a year, which was a remarkable achievement for that time. However, Jens Bang also had a need to show-off to the middle class. He was a bragger who may have been the city's biggest merchant, but, when it came down to it, he hadn't a penny to his name. 10 years after the house was built, Jens bang died and the creditors took over everything.

Jens Bang was somewhat resentful of the fact that he never became a member of the town government. For this reason, he decorated his house with heads which put out their tongues at the town hall, where Aalborg's big shots were seated. Others believe that the tongue-sticking heads are caricatures of Jens Bang's enemies. No matter which story you choose to believe, the house is definitely worth a visit.

PS: I am back from Den Helder and the Tall Ships' Race 2008 since last Friday, but I have been to lazzy to post again. The postprocessing of the images taken during these last three weeks on Asgard II is going smoothly, but it will have to wait a little longuer, since only one fifth of the 600 pics taken is done so far...
