Photographer’s Note

A view of a mast I have not displaid much so far, the mizzen mast. This gives me the opportunity to remind you that the Sorlandet is a fullrigger, a ship with square sails on all three masts. The comments of our captain of the time was that it is very nice , if you have plenty of people to work on the rigging and as a consequence it makes a very expensive ship... This is why they invented so many usefull kinds of machinery in the last days of commercial sailing, such as winches andbracing machines, to reduce the number of crew needed and thus cutting costs (since the wind is of course free). The other mast on the right of the image is of course the main mast.
