Photographer’s Note
This beetle apeared in a ray of sun from under my parents terresse yesterday evening. I know the point is for me to teach you something about Denmark, but let's reverse that - I don't know what kind of insect this is, a mean he looked very familiar, but he was huge about 3,5 cm lang, 1,5 wide, and that was without legs. Pitch black and slightly shiny on the head - Er det en jordbille?
By the way he eventually managed to get through the crack (with a little help from me and my magic fork - always there for alittle animal rescue 911)
I know the picture isn't great and it's lost a lot in scanning, cropping and resizing - sorry.

I actually think it is great! Original and very interesting composition - the bug is in focus, the floor is not - enhances the bug and gives the edge to this one.
Well captured!

Nice beetle Line. I think it is a Carabus violaceus - in Danish Violetrandet løber. the size is 20-30 mm and it is very common. It hibernates.

As observed above, the depth of focus that keeps the critter sharply delineated while both foreground and background are blurred adds to the drama of the image. I like it a great deal. I also appreciate that the critter is close to the top of the image rather than in the center. To me that placement adds tension as though the critter is about to get away. Fun shot!
You no doubt will have plenty of opportunity to take interesting photos once you're in Ecuador. I hope you have computer access so you can share them with us. Good luck!

Arr so those dragonflies wernt your 1st macro He he....
a very intresting shot Line a really good moment to capture, it looks to be a very large crop to go by the pixelation of the forground. also I notice round the antenae there is a disturbed area such as you get from over sharpening, just a thought I tend to use burntool to darken areas like anetae which makes them look more in focus so you dont need to apply so much sharpening,
a great capture though
