Fjord glacé d'Ilullissat, baie de Disko.

C'est le lieu de passage obligé ( ou de résidence temporaire ) des plus gros icebergs de l'hémisphère nord. Ces derniers sont vêlés ( c'est le terme consacré ) par le glacier Sermeq Kujalleq qui "expulse" ainsi annuellement une vingtaine de milliards de tonnes de glace. Il s'agit d'eau douce.
Le glacier ( appelé Jakobshavn en danois ) représente un accès à la mer de l'inlandsis groenlandais.
En été,ici, l'eau de mer a une température d'environ 4° Celsius. C'est peu propice à une baignade décontractée.
Avec de la chance, on peut y croiser des baleines à bosses. Ce ne fut pas mon cas.

Autre anecdote : c'est un de ces icebergs provenant d'Ilullisat que le Titanic heurta en 1912.


Ilullisat icefjord is the location where we can encounter the biggest icebergs in the northern hemisphere. The latter are produced by a giant glacier called Sermeq Kujalleq. This glacier directly derives from the Greenland Icecap. So far, about 20 billions tons of ice expand each year by the way.
In this area, we may observe humpback whales ( if we are lucky ).
During summer period, the temperature of the water amounts to 4° Celsius.

In 1912, the ocean liner Titanic crashed into one of these Ilullissat icebergs, which was drifting in northern Atlantic.
