Photographer’s Note

This is located in Tórshavn, capital of Føroyar. The gun you see there is a relic from the British "occupation" during WWII. The northern Atlantic was **swarming** with U-Boats from the german Kriegsmarine and, the Faroese people being a simple people (a very nice type of simple), they didn't actually have the means to defend themselves as much as they would've needed to. So it happened that Great Britain came around and settled troops on the islands. Although it was, technically, an occupation, it was much more of a "we stay here for you until the danger is passed" type of occupation.

Faroese people still speak of the British occupation with great kindness and the occupation itself came to be known as "the Gentle Occupation."

Oh and the island in the back is Nolsoy.
