Photographer’s Note

Mykines is a very small (only 10 square km) island situated in the South-West of the Faroes. There's only one village- Mykines with only 21 inhabitants (according to the data from the year 2003). You can get to the island by a small boat (only when the weather is nice, so if a storm comes you have to be prepared to stay in Mykines for 1- 2 days more;)) or by helicopter. The main attraction of the island are birds (mostly puffins). From Mykines you can walk (through a metal bridge over the sea) to another small island- Mykinesholmur, which is the only place in the whole Faroe Islands where you can meet gannets. Also there- on Mykinesholmur- 2 km from the haven is a lighthouse built in the westernmost point of the whole achipelago.

This picture, showing a part of one of a few houses in Mykines, was taken on our way from the haven to the camping (or rather a piece of field called "camping").
