Photographer’s Note
This is a picture of the outside of a most impressive burial mound found on the west side of the village of Nyrup, between Nykøbing Sjælland and Sjællands Odde. This area of Denmark is known for having the largest burial mounds or "jættestue" in the country. This particular one was comprised of a single room that was 2 meters high and 11 meters long. It is over 5200 years old. It is made of huge stones (one weighing over 9 tons) that have been set together using a primitive form of masonry. It was used as a burial mound for over 1400 years and contained both bones and tools from that time period.
More information about Birkehøj can be found at the following website - if you speak Danish. http://www.fortidsminder.com/birkehoej/birkehoej_oplysninger.html
Personally, I would say this is by far the most impressive Danish burial mound I've been in, in that it was huge and dry. According to the sign out front, it even had a drainage system included in it's design. It is well worth a visit if you are in that area of the country
In terms of photography, I choose the rustic sepia tone because I think it captures the feeling of remoteness in location and time. I chose not to clone out the info sign because I believe in showing the truth and the truth is there is a beautiful burial mound with an ugly, but informative, sign right in front of it. Feel free to comment.

Hello Kate,
This burial mound must be visible for a long way in the very flat land around it. It is amazing that these things still remain - I have been inside some in the UK, but I don't think they were as big as this. Your choice of sepia is very effective in giving the shot a timeless look and uniting the mound with the wind-blown tree and surrounding landscape.
Best wishes....Maggie

Hi Kate, excluding the sign in front of the gate, your idea is very good and the image is well done in its sepia, compliments, nice landscape and view.
