Photographer’s Note
Christmas in Denmark is primarily celebrated on Christmas eve (December 24th) and one of the key activities is dancing around the Christmas tree. Usually after eating a large dinner, the tree is moved into the center of the room. Then candels are lit (a bucket of water is also filled in case things get out of hand). Then everyone joins hands around the tree and sings a selection of Christmas favorites while going in a circle around the tree.
Besides the candles, trees are often decorated with woven hearts, hand made paper stars and other ornaments. The cone thing shown hear is usually filled with a special kind of cookie that is eaten throughout the holiday season. Finally, a string of flags is often added. In Denmark the flag is used for celebrations such as birthdays and Christmas. It is also used to announce sales at stores.
So a belated Merry Christmas to all of you, however you celelbrate the season.

lots of Danish flags on your Christmas tree.
well, I first got acquianted with your flag and your country in 1946 when your Red Cross sent food to starving Hungary to feed the schoolchildren. I was one of those kids.
to thank you, we were all making Danish flags,
wave them and sang your national anthem when your officials arrived.
Thanks again, Kate Jancsi
