Photographer’s Note
THE NEAR IMPOSSIBLE STITCH OF MONS KLINT
Did you believe that all stitching could be done in a software?
If so, you are wrong! All stitching is difficult as you ordinary shoot from on place. This mean you will always have some distortion in the picture due to the parallax error that will occur. Even worse when you have a very sharp angle to your object. Like here taking 4X4 shots covering sharp angles both in the height and the width.
So believe me, it was impossible to make this stitch automatic, and even manual it was very difficult: 4x4=16 photos of Mons Klint. But the result was for me very satisfying as the cliff is well presented and including almost all you see from the beach.
To give you an idea of the job pls. visit my workshop that presents the collection of individual photos. You will see that I missed the lowest left picture to have an even wider angle.
FACTS OF MONS KLINT
For about 75 million years ago this magnificent piece of nature began its journey to what it is today.
The chalk stratum began to grow for 75 million years ago when the millions of shellfish that lived in the sea died and formed one layer after the other of chalk on the sea bed.
The weather then began to get colder and the Ice Age came for about 1 million years ago. Gigantic glaciers moved southwards while it pushed the sea bed in front of it causing the chalk strata to dislodge and Mons Klint was born. And for the last 4-5000 years the ocean and the weather has shaped this beautiful chalk cliff!
Mons Klint is at the highest 128 meters. From the plateau to the beach T/R it is more than 900 stairsteps to go ;-o

Wow, that WS is impressive! But well worth the effort, this cliff scene is really good, i like the sky a lot and the narrow beach with black sand. Great note too.

No doubt, Jack, the effort was worth. There's nothing to see - I meen the stichies. And a great scenery. I admire your patient. The winterdays so far in North are still long...
Very very well done, thanks for the work and sharing.

Hack, this is an amazing work. I can really apreciate the efforts, and the time needed in order to produce this very difficlt puzzle. I know how hard to do is a good panorama and how much time I spent in order to get my first panorama which was only 1-D (and wasn't good enough), and here you made an excellent quality 2-d stitching. This sounds impossible but you made it perfectly. Very very well done, and excellent work.
I made a small WS, hust to improve the colors..

What an effort, Jack. This cliff really deserves to be shown in its entirety, and I think you can be really satisfied with the result of your work here. Your WS is interesting, particularly as it shows you did not take the pictures "tile by tile", but in a very overlapping way. Composition is fine with the far end of the cliff at a "golden" spot in the frame, and with a nicely curved shoreline. Congratulations on a job well done.

This is a very good shot though a little soft. I like the subtle colors very much and the composition/angle you've chosen. It is so relaxing just staring at this photograph.

You done a great work in capturing this special Danish sight. Normally its hard to find places in the nature where one can feel altitude and height - but this Chalk cliff something special - I was there for some years ago - but did only get "family" photos.
Thanks for showing your techniques - I will remember this next time a motif "shows up"
Great work Jack.

16 sewn photos? Your technique surprises me a lot and the result is excellent. The composition is beautiful, colours are returned well. Maybe a small recovery of the horizon would be desirable? The ws of Avigur contrasted the image, what adds to the impact of your work.

Never ever seen such a good picture of Mons Klint!!! If I ever would be able to rise funds for my dreamwork "Geological Monuments of the World"... you may get my e-mail ;)
OK, after looking closer I found some errors... But no, it is great!

This is just a great landscape photo! The colors and composition are superb. You chose the location well to give the viewer an idea of the towering wall of rock and the contrast of the smooth, calm sea.

Very interesting technique and stunning result. But why did you decided to go through all this hard work? Except for obtaining image big enough to print a wall-sized poster, of course.

Thank you for a very useful lesson in stitching. It is a subject I didn't get into yet, but you have just given me taste for it. And the shot from my country (actuyally, from our summer house on Stevns we have a clear view to Moen - on a clear day)is beautiful.

Hello Jack,
This is an incredible shot ! i like the way you composed the picture, the colors of the sky are beautiful and well controled, the sea looks so quiet and the black curved line improve the contrast between the clifs and the water.

Hi Jack,
You were on the frontpage!
Yes stiching can be frustrinting, but the result is good!
I wish I ever had visited this place. I only visited Stevns Klint, which is a bit more to the north, but much lover and less impressive.
Beautiful composition. Nice clouds in the sky, but the colours are a bit dull. But that natural in February.
