Morning sunshine, a crossword puzzle, cigarette, hot coffee in the basket, and a few dozen close friends to share the fresh pastry with. What more does one need?
I love the scene and his look of complete concentration here. And I especially like the mismatched clothes pins on his trouser legs, presumably because he arrived here via bicycle :)
(This is a scan of a photograph I took thirty years ago ~ please excuse the faded colors... )

Thirty years ago I was wondering why my voice is changing and why the tiny mustache had started appearing, but thirty years ago you knew perfectly well how to compose the shot with the main subject on the 1/3rd.
I don't find any coffee, may be you could see it while clinging the shot!!
What draws me here is the little sparrows I used to see and try to catch when I was a kid.
They are no more here. Its learnt that the wavelength of the mobile towers is injurious to their health.
Thanks a ton for a trip back to my adolescent days.

This is a lovely shot, very charming and heart-warming. It's a good composition too. The 30 odd sparrows towards the right balance the man on the left side quite well. As for the slightly red colours they don't really bother me, because what the picture shows is so much more important. Still, some improvement would have been quite easy with a few clicks of a PP programme.

This image is like a painting. The pins on his pants were one of the first things to catch my attention. This was taken back in the days when you couldn't check your shot on a digital screen to see if it was done right. Considering that, this picture is magnificent. A great composition!

Dear Kristin, this image has warmed me up this morning for the cold winter day that's ahead. Love the title and the image.
He seems content as he caters for his intellectual and physical needs, the latter being fulfilled by the sunshine, his coffee, the chirping conversation of his friends and his cigarette. The pegs trouble me only if he didn't come by bicycle and instead had pulled his pants(drip and dry types) off the line and put them on absentmindedly. I believe your version is absolutely correct.I just noticed that he brought a blanket to fold and lean on- obviously a well prepared and thorough man. Nadam se da je u Bozijem miru sada. Best regards. Klaudio.

That is a beauty of a shot, Kristin,
Everything is so beautifully balanced, the light is great, your subject is charming, wonderful atmosphere. What a great eye you have. I even like how it looks old fashioned. Don't touch a thing. Many thanks and warm regards,

A wonderful shot from the archives - I like this kind of shot, it's like a trip down nostalgia lane. It's a lovely picture of a man completely absorbed by his crossword puzzle, well equipped to enjoy the passing hours oblivious to the tiny sparrows waiting for crumbs. I saw the coloured pegs on his trousers before I read your note! I think your guess at their purpose must be correct. Thank you for this charming picture from 'long ago'.

J'aime beaucoup cette composition, car elle raconte une histoire.Celle d'un homme seul ami des oiseaux. Il est rare de voir des moineaux en aussi grand nombre au pieds d'un humain. J'aime les teintes sÚpia de l'ensemble.

I like this composition.
Have a nice weekend , Katrin

Oh, this is delightful! Regardless of this being 30 years old, it looks really good...the only thing that would stand out in that regard would be the tint, which really isn't all that bad. As mentioned before, I'm more interested in the actual content...and this has a lot to absorb. Your note paints a great picture of its own to the image at hand. :)
I've always enjoyed these older pictures, there's such a nostalgic quality to enjoy taking in. This would seem typical just about anywhere in the world I would imagine...and older person going about his/her daily routine, and in a park type setting where it's generally quite and relaxing to simply slow things down....which will happen naturally whether we want it to or not!? :)
Having all of the little birds waiting in anticipation of a "hand out" is amusing, there's also a human quality to that element and visual. Looks like you had already developed a good eye for the every day, human interest! Thanks for sharing this look back. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

I'm happy to excuse the faded colours. But I wonder if I need to. There is a nostalgic feel to the photograph, which is enhanced by the colour caste. Is this Kodak film? I suspect it is, as it has that warm tone I remember from using it for many years. Alternatively I reckon this would work very successfully in black and white...

You're capturing and watching well this scene in the park by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the spectacle in which the elderly man is sitting bench and writing something to the paper while he has tobacco in a hand. It is a spectacle often seen in a park even today. He looks like stylish clothes with hat and is ready well drink and some foods in basket. In addition, it's interesting that many sparrows are expecting something to eat and are approaching near him. I see well dove in addition to the sparrow the same behavior in yjr park. And, In Japan, I have no longer seen so much trash in the park.
