Operaen III
And here's the third part of my series of the new Opera-house in Copenhagen. The first two can be found here: Operaen and Welcome to Operaen.
This picture is more meant as an overview to show the location of the building as well as its surroundings.
Operaen has been built between June 2001 and October 2004 and opened in January 2005. The building is located on the island of Holmen, north of Christianshavn and opposite to the Royal Palace Amalienborg and Marmorkirken (Marble Church). The architect behind this project is Henning Larsen.
Operaen is a donation to the Danish state by A.P. Møller and Chastine McKinney-Møller Foundation. Møller was the co-founder of the company Maersk.
As I told you Operaen is built on the island of Holmen, on the part which is called Dokøen (Dock Island) and the old dock and pumping station is still visible near the Opera.
It is only possible to come to the small island by one narrow bridge, but the public transport in Copenhagen has also a boat sailing to Holmen.
At the other side of the water the Royal Palace Amalienborg is located, but isn't visible here. The houses you can see in the background are located at Tolbodgade and could be also seen in the reflections in my last picture.
I hope you like this picture to.
To be continued.

Your POV here is a good addition to your series so we can see the surrounding buildings. Good sharpness and DOF. The roof almost looks as if it is sheltering the whole town

Hi Lars, very nice picture, I like this perspective a lot, it renders better the grandeur of the Operaen, it really dwarfs the distant buildings on the other side of the canal. I also like the clarity of the picture, the colours and the blue sky. Well done!

Bonsoir Lars,

Hi Lars!
I don't like modern architecture but you present this building very well. Good composition, but you should cut a bit from the down of image. Nice colors and sharpness. Interesting (as always) note.
Regards.

Hi Lars. Another nice one from this most modern opera house. I can't decide which I like the most as they all have their strong points. It might be fun to crop out a lot of the grass to get an ultra-low horizon. Still the light is amazing. Nicely done Lars, tfs!

Mijn complimenten
John.

Hi Lars,
A well composed shot which perhaps better establishes the beautiful location of the opera House. The generous foreground gives a feeling of spaciousness to the setting and I really like the older style buildings in the background which contrast with the modernity of the main structure. Very well captured.

Hi Lars, A beautiful shot. I like the looking of the roof cut out in the front, the perspective tree line and the perspective view of the house in the background. I may crop a little out from the bottom and from the right hand side to make a "perfect" one third dividing -- just being picky. I really enjoy this well taken clear and sharp picture. Thanks for providing a wonderful view of this place.
One of my favorites.

It's an impressive structure, especially in contrast to the buildings in the distance. It's like a giant modern sculpture on this large open field. And the strong horizontal lines are well rendered by your point of view. The grass and the structure have a nice elongated feel. And it seems the canopy protects the buildings in the distance which seem tiny and beneath it. You probably could have cropped some of the grass out to enhance the long proportions of this photo. But nicely documented Lars.

Hej Lars,
I think this was the only shot of the Opera, that I haven't made a critic.
It's a good perspective that shows well, both the surroundings and the volumes that make this interesting piece of architecture. The composition is well executed, with good natural soft colours and sharpness. The element that I like more (I think that I had already mentioned) is the upper plan that makes the roof of the Opera - I just love it - and even in this general view, it dominates the image. Good work for this series!
Hilsner,
Ricardo
