Longing for longer days

We are heading for longer days on the northern hemisphere. Every day since the 21st of December has the sun moved a little bit higher on the southern sky and moved a little more against west at sunset for each day. Ancient observatories like Stonehenge were used to make this kind of observations (among others).
Now what has this to do with my picture!! I can’t remember seeing this kind of shadow on this church tower and if my theory correct its only two times each year its possible to see exactly this image (provided that the sun shines at sunset)
The photo has been turned 2 deg CW to make the stone fence horizontal (Yes Adrian – your mission hasen’t been in vane ;) Cropping and a light sharping (Constant and Colour unchanged)

I do like the way you have captured the light and shadow in this version Jeppe and the way you placed it into a fine composition, the shadow is so soft which suits the colours and hues of the church in this image, I would only suggest cropping the wall away , but this is a personal view point and does not detract from its overall appearance.

Some times the short days works fine for photos, like here with not only the shadows but also the nice soft colours. Very good Jeppe.

This is very good, Jeppe. The reflection of the tree on the church tower is beautiful, I'm glad you didn't miss the "one out of two opportunities" a year to take this. Very pleasant and soft light. I'm in favor of keeping the stone wall ... Well done!

Spot on Jeppe, just love the textures and the colours the tree shadow works realy well. the notes are good to . in theroy you are right about the shadow but you do get some very close ones. nice one

Very nice shot with soft bright colors and the shadows are superb also the anchors having same pattern as the trees' shadow is catching the eye!

The play of shadows on the wall, the texture of rough stones - natural state in the fence, whitewashed in the wall - , the muted but strong colors contrasting the white church, it's all very good.

Nice soft tones and good point of view. I like the way colors don't mix and have clear borders creating good contrasts.

Très bonne composition avec un éclairage doux de fin de journée. L'ombre portée des arbres sur l'église agrémente l'image.

Very good composition with a soft lighting of end of day. The shadow of the trees on the church decorates very well the picture.

Good have shoted this church in good projection. Three colours of the church, red, white and black, they are very effective. I like the tree branches on both side of the pic.

Excellente composition avec une jolie lumière douce qui avec l'ombre des arbres est de toute beauté.

You really have had a lot of sun up there this winter. Congratulations - and on catching the motives it creates. The whiteness of the church and the blue of the sky still impresses me.
