Photographer’s Note

There’s a long lasting tradition of giving Danish houses a thatched roof. Its especially on half-timbering Houses (most of them over 200 years old) such a kind of roof could be found.
It’s quite expensive to establish a thatched roof (2 to 3 times more then a “normal” roof) and the Insurance will also cost you more.
There’s nothing like the sight of a newly thatched roof, and with a bit of luck will it last for the next 80 years at least. Moreover will the people who are living under it get a chilled house in the summertime and a warmer in the winter.

Second note 10-5-2004:

I found this excellent site (in Danish) with a lot photos of the process of tacking.
The material reeds is grown on wett grounds.
