The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art is an art museum located directly on the shore of the Øresund Sound in Humlebæk, 35 km (22 mi) north of Copenhagen, Denmark. It is the most visited art museum in Denmark with an extensive permanent collection of modern and contemporary art, dating from World War II and up until now, as well as a comprehensive programme of special exhibitions. The museum is also acknowledged as a milestone in modern Danish architecture, noted for the synthesis it creates of art, architecture and landscape.
This painting, by David Hockney, became a favourite of mine and you can see it in full here.
I read somewhere a story about Joan Collins (or maybe Jackie), who said she loved one of Hockney´s paintings of a swimming pool, but she couldn’t afford the painting, so she bought the swimming pool instead…

You certainly found some very interesting bright and cheerful artwork, a real eye catcher and actually very pleasing in wonderful array of colours with superb clean crispiness. This certainly brighten the corner and credit to art lovers! It's beautifully timed capturing the admirer at exactly the most appropriate spot. A superb shot in every way - colour, comp, content and interest. Well done

The composition is interesting and very artistic with the lines formed by windows and floor converging to the man observing the painting, which really stands out in the picture for its beautiful strong colors! Perfectly done!

Hi Gunnar, spectacular capture of this peinture in a magnificent composition and perspective, the quality is really professional, always difficult to take pics so perfects in the difficult light of interiors, great details, bright colors and a nice 3D effect too.Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

I like the contrast of the extremely colorful painting with the almost b&w environment
Also how the man is restricted to the angle of the 2 walls
An original and pleasant image

i love the louisiana!
i try to spend some time there each time i visit denmark. in fact, i have a large poster from their 'avedon' exhibit back in 2008 on the wall behind my desk. it's a very special place.
hockney and his fabulous colors, i was immediately drawn to your shot from just the thumbnail. a good add with that fellow in front, to give it both scale and focus.
thank you so much for sharing, it's been a nice little mini-break for me today :)
great quote from ms collins, btw :)

Ciao e buona serata
Glint (5927) 2013-09-12 10:25
this is a well composed image. I like the contrast of the bright David Hockney and the slim dark clothed viewer. The viewer looks like he has stepped out of a Lowry painting and his one of his matchstick men.

A very interesting scene.
Superb colors and sharpness.
I like it.
ourania (18738) 2013-09-12 13:08
the painting is beautiful and shows the artist's love of his art and of his theme. I like very much how you've rendered the contrast between the bright colours and stunning view of the artwork with the discreet and modest hall and viewer. He looked very dettached at first but now I think he's leaning forward, towards the artistic interpretation of this magnificent place, maybe imagining himself there. The distance between him and the painting is my favourite part. Light management and colour treatment are wonderful. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely evening,
gojo (1393) 2013-09-12 13:29
I min smak!
s_lush (16054) 2013-09-12 13:42
This very aesthetic work of art has beautiful palette, which includes the red, your favorite. The painting is the main element of the well-balanced and very expressive composition. Excellent presentation of the museum!
worldcitizen (5629) 2013-09-12 18:15
This is definitely a beautiful painting, and your photo presents it in a stunning way. The colors jump out against the plain, white background, and the person is in the perfect spot - right at the corner. The choice to include the corner, and only part of the painting, is very effective. It's a strong and lovely composition.
emka (64214) 2013-09-12 19:57
hu Gert, I like this composition very much. Fine painting and interesting to show the visitors. Amusing aout J. Collins. But not possible to buy Grand Canyon.

Hello Gunnar, time for Art!!! and what a better place to enjoy than Frederiksborg in Copenhagen..magnificent Castle and Art galleries, great collections and one beautiful sample in your picture!!
great interior picture by the way!!
all the best

I love the colors in this photo. The painting has rich, lush, warm colors whereas the surroundings (including the admirer of the painting) have cold colors.
As I was looking at it, I wondered how a tighter crop would look and experimented. After my experiment, I see that the original framing brings out the depth more. However, since I already have the cropped version, I'll post it to the workshop.

Très bonne journée.

The tourist is planning his next trek in the canyon. Super contrast B&W area against the vivid painting.
limielski (2573) 2013-09-13 7:54
I like the contrast between this hall (in almost B&W ) and red/orange huge picture.
I love such combination of colours. This man is placed in golden division. It's a simple composition and it's one of the reason this is beautiful. TFS
Have a nice weekend!
It rains in Warsaw :-(
kato (9572) 2013-09-13 10:50
You're capturing well this one corner of this museum by a god angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see this modern art painting expressed "Grand Canyon". He seems to have taken in skillfully the essence of Grand Canyon with desert, red rocks and cactus on big campus. It is powerful although it is abstraction. And, the onlooker is catched in the good position.
PiotrF (2380) 2013-09-13 13:07
A very creative crop . Nice graphics and play of light and shadow . Part of the image by David Hockney is beautiful. Combination colors and black&white is superb
jcpix (6640) 2013-09-13 22:08
I initially thought from the thumbnail image that there was perhaps too much negative space in this shot, but it only took a second to realize its beauty and effectiveness. A smart composition which places the connecting sides of the wall right into the thirds portion of the frame, technically sound. The large wall space also helps create contrast to the painting itself, making its presence even stronger. Speaking of presence, the gentleman here is the perfect touch for scale and intrigue...the human element wisely included. A strong sense of space, very well defined and presented. Have a great weekend ahead. take care.
All the best,
bukitgolfb301 (32680) 2013-09-14 4:39
Hi dear Gunnar
Wow so wonderful image full of your high senses and inspirations. Very well considered framework by using the corner so wisely. Sharp and clear presnetation in the details are marvelous as usual.
All the best and have a good Saturday! TAKERO

marabu61 (5879) 2013-09-15 5:27
Intriguing piece of art indeed. One has to look twice at the painting to take it all in and to make some sense of it.
It contrast beautifully with the completely white wall and the lonely viewer, fully lost in the painting, is an added bonus too.
tyro (15729) 2013-09-15 5:43
This is a delightful photograph in which we can see just a part of this lovely painting. As such, it entices, or even teases, us because we wish to be standing where that man is - and have the ability to view the whole of the picture and study it in fine detail!
You have, of course, caught the man in just the right position in the frame (and with respect to the painting) and his pose suggests that he is closely scutinising the painting too. Fine lines of composition too (which Peter would be able to assess far better than I can).
A striking and pleasing photograph with lovely light, fine true colours and exquisite details and sharpness.
jemaflor (74128) 2013-09-15 8:57
Well balanced your composition with this man and the colored painting, perfect light and colors, well done.
macjake (45588) 2013-09-15 9:42
very cool photo, and in my humble opinion i think its all because of the man in black!
he offers up alot of contrast between the white walls and the colorful painting.
and is it just me or does the mans feet look Way to big for his body! haha
annjackman (15581) 2013-09-16 8:31
Wow - this is powerful. The composition is minimalistic with the exception of the brightly coloured painting. Of course it is the inclusion of the viewing man that makes this a 'photographers picture'. Superbly done - TFS.
Kind Regards, Ann

very nice the view as the presentation of this section of the Louisiana Museum with the visitor to looks so exciting the colourful painting.I like the excellent light and colour management as the placement of the man in the frame.

Hello Gunnar This art of painting is much better of composition . I like the artwork and wonderful colors. Well done, tfs.
Royaldevon (21523) 2013-09-17 0:29
This is a very attractive shot and very well composed. The corner of the wall, with the nicely aligned focal figure, follows the thirds line, whilst the floor area uses a vertical third. The painting provides the whole colour to your shot and it is good to follow the view of the figure so that we are sharing the experience with him.
A sharply exposed, attractive shot.
Have a great day,

Hej , Gunnar,
I like to see a picture in picture. Good presentation of the art work with an admirer,
I like your choice of the point of view and this composition as a result.
All the best wishes,

Exactly a puzzle these painting, the man with his hand depth in his pockets is a very nice addition.
Also your picture is very pleasant to look at, with lot patience made.
We get here a very good picture, taken out a very good angle.
Excellent composition, nice captured, perfect perspective and depth photograph.
Very well done, TFS.
boa (4685) 2013-09-20 12:35

Hello deae Gunnar,
Also one of my favorite themes ; to capture visitors of exhibitions.
Here the visitor is concentrated yet on the info's about the artwork, soon he'll enjoy the artwork itself.
Very good pov.
TFS and best regards
siudzi (27779) 2013-10-07 10:52
Like this shot! I think the colorful art is powerful here and the scene was perfectly taken with a great sense of the moment. Well observed and done. TFS.
ChrisJ (91292) 2013-10-08 5:35
Well I have been to the real one and this is a fine artistic interpretation. Good sharpness and excellent warm cold colour contrasts between the predominantly hot colours of the painting and the cooler blue grey tones of the art gallery walls & floor. Good sharpness and the man assessing the painting adds both depth and a human element that animates the scene. Tfs!
SWEETFREEDOM (19936) 2013-10-08 23:26
interesting shot, i like the painting and the contrast of colors of the scene.
bayno (18338) 2013-10-12 10:32
very beautiful work art that did not know and very nice shot, a minimal of great charm, great contrast between the bright colors of the picture and the other gray shades, perfect composition and beautiful details...
have a good WE...
photoray (6700) 2013-10-14 6:47
Like everyone else a provocative painting of the American West's icon, for its immense size mimicking the Canyon and its modern transposition in art and color, reminding me of another West icon, Georgia O'Keefe.
And a humorous side note, which is common with our Rich, buying what they like.
PS: I had to accept Nature's lighting without any sun covered by an approaching storm on my Martinelli Ranch posting, causing the low contrast, but then there is no glare.
