A Classic photo over looking the Vltava river in the beautiful city of Prague, the ST Vitus Cathedral top left. THIS HAS A POSTER EFFECT PP OVER IT, I thought it looked a little different.
The cathedral's foundation stone was laid in 1344 by Emperor Charles IV. The first architect was Matthias of Arras, after his death Petr Parler took over and completed much of the structure in late-Gothic style. Over the following centuries renaissance and baroque details were added and the job was completed in 1929. The most beautiful of numerous side chapels, Parler's Chapel of St Wenceslas, houses the crown jewels and the tomb of “Good King” Wenceslas.
There are many superb exaples of 20th century Czech stained glass and marvellous pieces of art, for example a wooden relief by Caspar Bechterle that shows the escape of Frederik of the Palatinate from Prague in 1621, and wooden Crucifixion by František Bílek
The Royal Crypt contains the remains of Charles IV, Wenceslas IV, George of Poděbrady and Rudolf II.
There are excellent views from the Great Tower on a clear day. Info taken from This web site.

Hi Wilson, nice B&W like an old post-card, Prague is an interesting and beautiful city, and you have well done this picture of it, compliments.
jemaflor (77482) 2007-08-21 3:47
Classical shot ... but always a good pov for a very pleasant composition, good contrast, tfs.
Giedra70 (963) 2007-08-21 4:11
Thank you well done picture.

It is a beautiful traditional image which one never wearies oneself. To take in black and white changes the atmosphere and the practice. Beautiful realization. Cheer.
Spend a good day

Composition and sharpness be very well, why in BW for so a lovely city!
I like the old buildings and the river in foreground, but not of the BW. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Wilsonl. I was in Prague a couple of months ago and took a shot just like this one. Doesn't everyone? Good to see you have left out the bridge, allowing you to capture more of the buildings to the right of St Vitus. This straight b/w could be out of a book from the 1950's, although I doubt they had a 'Jazz Boat' in those days! Lovely winter sunlight, although the cloud looks a bit strange to me. It is, as you say, a classic composition and good exposure.

una muy buena composicion en B&W
La cantidad de tonos en gris, la calidad con la definicion y encuadre magnifico, hacen de ella una bella imagen
AROBN54 (11471) 2007-08-21 10:04
Nicely done. I like this shot in B&W . The details and contrast are excellent. Looks like it could be an illustration from an 19th century book. Good work! Warm regards,
Cricri (97031) 2007-08-21 10:22
Un POV qui montre beaucoup éléments architecturaux
interressant de Prague, joli jeu d'ombre et de lumiére, belle ambiance particuliére du N/B

Black and white for a classical shot, good choice! The light and the atmosphere are really good. I like the light because is soft and for the shadows it produce! The composition is very good too: from the high cathdral to the palace... Very beautiful shot! Thanks.

un ephoto qui représente bien ce pays. le noir et blanc donne de l'effet super.. Réal.
gunbud (34066) 2007-08-21 17:41
Excellent capture of this famous cities beautiful river port. The details to the historic buildings are strikingly sharp as well and great lighting that renderds wonderful contrast between the shadows and light. Very infomative note to go along with this classic black and white image.

That is great B/W compozisiton. This gives us really oldiesh Prag view like 1930. Good compo and good clarity

A softly contrasted BW, all is in the title : very classic, and working very well !
I like how you enhanced the architecture, so beautiful,
Budapestman (82620) 2007-08-22 2:01
This is a fascinating and classical spectacle, indeed. I like the splendid diagonal composition and the many magnificent details. Good choice the B&W, really nostalgic spectacle. Great! Have a nice day

that is a present for me. First visit there in 1980, second for only one day on a business trip early 90's. And it is a very beautiful town, also in black&white. The contrasts from the architecture is in this colour reduction stronger than I thought. A special Thanks!
Lieben Gruss, Ulf

Hi, Wilson. An interesting view of those imposing buildings. You've chosen a good POV with the Vltava in the foreground and the hill overlooking it. To be honest, I don't like your PP of the cloud too much. I'd rather have left it unchanged.
renerob (601) 2007-08-22 7:37
A very nice B&W photo of Prague, with lots of detail, and a very nice POV, it's one of the places that is on my list to go and see, and you have just brought it a bit closer for me to go and see with this lovely photo,
Standa (1877) 2007-08-22 12:37
yes, this is classic photo but for me from little diferent reason. It remindes me Prague postcards from my childhood when B/W were more common then coloured. You returned me back to 70th. Nice to see Prague by this eyes.
gary91 (15347) 2007-08-22 23:05
Although as you say it is a classical one, it is q very nice view of the wonderful city of Prague.
I like your b&w processing which makes it different for the thousand other pictures taken at this place. The strange cloud in the sky is very nice as well.
Have a nice day.
Best regards, Christian

Hi, my friend!
Very interesting white and black photo. Yes, Prague it is very beautiful city. Specialy old city! I like your view and good composition. Well done.
emjleclercq (15780) 2007-08-23 14:58
Excellent shaprness which gives its full effect with the choice of B&W, and the cathedral and buildings are very nice. I just feell that the cloud in the sky looks a bit strange here.
All the best,

Hi Wilson. Another excellent photo in B&W of this huge castle on the hill in Prague. Good PP. Excellent presentation as a poster. TFS. Murray.
Graal (94186) 2007-08-24 0:24
good POV, interesting composition, it's similar to old postcard. I like the contrast also. Good reportage from Prague.
feather (51130) 2007-08-24 2:44
Although I prefer the colour version I have read your note and replies to others and can appreciate your reasons for the PP. Taken on its own the B&W with the effect has made it almost like an etching or detailed drawing and it is attractive in ite own right.
leo61 (0) 2007-08-24 11:15
Great shot of these eamous buildings of Prague,I like it in B&W.Great POV ,good sharpness and contrast ,but the cloud looks a bit strange after postprocessing.
dougie (2966) 2007-08-24 14:39
Good view, which emphasises the dominance of the Cathedral over the city. Not too sure about the poster effect, but the toning and detail I like. Lots to look at. Thanks.
cfreire (11739) 2007-08-24 20:06
Wow ... it's a beautiful photo. I couldn't say anything about it, because is perfect. It seems a painting. Godd contrascts and light. Well done !!
danos (80967) 2007-08-25 0:44
excellent the view of St. Vitus Cathedral but the more impressive is the processing of the capture,it looks like a photo gravure. The B/W format,i think that it's the best for this kind of the shot and the atmosphere is unique.Well done Wilson.
Have a nice weekend,Danos

Belle photo de cette cathédrale, comme une vielle carte postale mais en beaucoup mieux, la définition et la netteté plus grande, superbe photo NB. Amitiés Thomas
prumod (8300) 2007-08-26 7:18
very contrastic elements in this b/w shot! clarity of monotones are interesting....
greetings..., dear wilson...

LE NB convient parfaitement à cette vue. Je pense me rendre à Prague pour Noel, cette ville me séduit vraiment.
Très jolie photo d'une belle découverte panoramique de Prague.
Didi (53355) 2007-09-02 1:37
Classic yes but very attractive picture with a good contrast.
Interesting light direction on the housses.
ocskaymarci (2646) 2007-09-03 9:37
It's always nice to pick out an "older" photo from your albums.
The composition is very rich and busy here, it shows the live face of Prague.
Great use of B&P, POV and sharpness!
jmcl (14535) 2007-09-07 22:31
I was wondering about the PP.. Beautiful composition .. such great detail and layered depth. Wonderful.
vascao (192) 2007-09-13 15:52
Classic, but not ordinary at all. Magical lighting, and a clever use of the B&W. A well balanced image, in a correct compo.

sadeik (3268) 2007-11-03 5:14
This is very nice in black and white and the composition is very good too. However after having a look at the colour version I have to say even though I like black and white the original shot shows off the classic red roofs to great effect, so my personal opinion here would to have gone for the colour.
MichaelTrezzi (3347) 2007-11-19 11:41
Hi Wilson, very nice, sharp and clear image of the classical Prague scene. Very good composition, the BW looks rather like from the years between the wars - however it makes the classics more interesting. TFS, Rgds, Michael
ekinokswest (2994) 2007-12-01 15:10
I have been thinking as to why you have left this photo black and white. If it is the weird looking clouds, I see yet you could have attempted to get rid of it . I think it is a good compositon overall. you have been just unlucky.thanks for sharing and letting us know about the river
branley (3681) 2008-06-02 10:14
Hi Wilson, a classic indeed and well suited to B&W though I'm not sure about the poster effect but I like it all the same as it's good to see people trying different styles once in a while. Great pov and good sharpness. Prague is a city that intrigues me and would love to visit but probably never will....too much in love with my beloved france!
ValS (92) 2008-11-18 12:52
It was a great idea to make this picture B&W! When I visited Prague, I made several pictures with similar POV, but it was something in those pictures what I didn't like. Now I have understood: colour! Beautiful buldings, but the colour gamut slightly spoils impression. But in B&W it became perfect! And the poster effect is right in place here.
Also I like the boat - without it the right side woud be empty.
JCG (35129) 2009-09-24 12:01
An interesting point of view on this part of the beautiful town of Prague. I like much your choice of the black and white because with this good light the plays of shade brings a pretty relief and lets appear much details. I appreciate also this drawing effect of the image. Beautiful glance, thank you Wilson.
With all my friendships and a very good evening,
