The legend about ancient origins of the Vitkovci family and the "division of the Rose" has a lot of charm, but it is only the legend...

The first mention of the Krumlov settlement is from 1253. The owners of the estate at that time were descendents of the Vitek family who, on a rock above Vltava river, built the oldest part of the castle with a tower protecting the ford over the river, which was cut here by an important commercial route.
The first Lord of Krumlov was Vitek II, son of Vitek.

This shot was taken from picturesque outskirts of the Castle's Gardens, in the place of former Summer Riding School.

On the left You can see characteristic buildings of Hradek - the Little Castle, an early Gothic castle partially maintained under the Renaissance changes with dominating the skyline tower.
This complex was built during the reign of Vitek II.

Very nice composition with the foreground red tiles driving our sight to the background levels. Good colours. Not so sure about the titles at the bottom - good for a postcard, not so to this photo display, IMMO ..

kebek
this is a great view of these roofs of this typical (i guess!) city.
well done
thx for share
loic

Very nice composition with a very strong lead in line.
The vista is great, and the sky looks good. Technically, a really good shot!
Well done and keep up the good work!

Hi Mat,
I like those roof views, and this one is a very nice one ! The perspective is great with those big tiles. Mixing red roofs, green trees and nice light, you've got a good shot, well done !

Cheers,
Youssef.

Hi Mat,
Very nice composition. Love the color of all the roofs. The stand out very bright. Great job. The roofpans (not sure if you call them this) in the front of the picture give a very nice touch to the whole scene.

Bonjour Mat,
C'est une belle prise de vue, les couleurs sont bien saturées.
Merci.

Hi Mat - a charming view, I like the inclusion of a close up of the roof tiles, also the contrast of orange and red and interesting sky, great work.

Hi Mat,
Wow, you are really nailing down the great shots in this area lately. Your colour and clarity are superb - perhaps we should take another look at your camera! The unusual nest of red roofs in the foreground neatly sets off the rest of the scene. The green foliage to the left acts as a perfect balance in colour and texture to the wonderful urban panorama. Another great use of the portrait format, Mat.
John

Hi Mat,
A good view point with a perspective to the castle, amplified by the use of the portrait format. I just find the colors a bit too much saturated here, especially the rooves under the sun look a bit unnatural.
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

Hi Mat
Lovely POV over this attractive town, and I like the inclusion of the roof tiles which add foreground interest. The colour of the rooves is eyecatching though I think you've overdone the saturation a bit.
Regards, Susanna

Great job framing your shot by including the roof tiles in the foreground. TFS

Hi Mat,
Great colours are here and excellent perspective. All your pictures of Cesky Krumlov are wonderful and almost professional. I like them very much. Coincidentaly, I was in Cesky Krumlov in about the same time as you and I'll post some photos too.

Cheers,
Marek
