The Painted House in Trebic was built in 16th century by the Venice merchant Francesco Calligardi, who used it as a store to sell colonial goods. Graffito facade was later covered up with lime by the house's new owners and rediscovered again by a teacher at the Trebic Grammar School in 1903.

Behind the Painted House there is the City Tower built shortly after 1335 as a part of the Trebic's defensive walls. Now it is a part of St. Martin's Church. The tower is 75m high and the dimensions of its clock (the face has 5.5m in diameter with numbers as high as 60cm) put it among largest tower clock in Europe.

Update: As Jean-Yves noticed, the house is now used as a tourist information office. If you visit Trebic, you should go there first. I bought a map of Trebic there with descriptions of all important sights and monuments for only 1 Czech Crown (less than 0.04 EUR) -- probably the cheapest useful thing I bought in last 10 years.

What a fabulous building this is!

Hi Marek, nice shot! I like the POV and the inclusion of the person for scale purposes. The details are spectacular. The only downer is the washed out sky but it really doesn't matter as this shot is that good. Nicely done Marek!

What a impressive house!!!
Including a person was a great idea.
cheer... and thank you!!
Carmem

Great shot Marek! This painted house is simply beautiful : I've seen such paintings in the old Prague. Is it a Czech tradition?
Regards, David

What a fantastic place Marek - really beautiful architecture and decoration and really well photographed - a perfect shot to display this building at its best - even getting red, blue and yellow into the image!! Fantastic!

best wishes

Kev

Hi there,
just a note: it's not paiting, it's sgraffito. It's acctually cut/scratched/combed to the plaster/stucco, there are different layers (eg. white and black, but also red etc.)It may have geometrical, floral or figural motives.

see e.g.

http://hoary.org/snaps/czech/slav.html

good PoV and frame, colours and exposure, emphasizing beauty of the place; the person on the right gives to the photo feeling of local atmosphere.

whaterver it is, painting or graffito, it looks very nice on the white house ! the colors of the roof and the green top of the clock tower contrast well with the grey of the sky. nice frmaing with the pavement ending just touching the border. the woman gives a scale. well done Marek.

Hi Marek,
Very good picture from a good POV! The like the art on the building's wall, it's well visible! Well done! :-D
Groetjes,
Lars

Dobry Den Marek,
This house is beautful and we can have an excellent view on the fine artworks on it thanks to the good angle you chose, from what I see on the left it seems the houses around this one are interesting too. The green i sign leads me to think it is now used as a tourism information point.
Have a nice week end,
Jean-Yves

Magnifique cette maison,du beau travail, la lumière est assez fantastique avec ce ciel gris bleu homogène.J'aime bien Ciao/jr

A very impressive portrayal, Marek. The colours and clarity are outstanding. Every fine detail is visible here. The green dome on the clocktower adds an extra dimension. Very well seen and executed. Regards.

Hi Marek,
You made a gloomy sky look good together with the main subject. But the main job - presenting this beautiful old house is done in a professional manner and you achieved it through taking a good POV, creating most desirable composition and tweeking colours and contrast with great precision and taste.
Congratulations!
Robi
