Photographer’s Note

From Southern Moravia my journey continued to the Vysocina (highland) region and I stopped by very interesting Serpentinite steppe near the town of Mohelno (Mohelnska hadcova step). It is situated in 130m high rocky slopes forming a beautiful canyon of the Jihlava River. Due to unique natural conditions supporting rare flora and fauna, the Mohelno Steppe was declared as protected area in 1952. Here are very detailed information on Mohelenska Serpentine Steppe in English.

This picture shows the most dominant tree species of the Mohelenska steppe -- a pine of the rare form Pinus silvestris hamata. It's taken at the end of a steep path crawling 100m up from the canyon. No post processing, except resizing and small adjusting of contrast.
