If you're going to visit Prague for a few days, try to make the early morning bus ride to the town of Telc, spend the day and come back to Prague in the evening.
On a sunny warm day, the town square lights up with its colorful architecture and photo opportunities abound.
Walk up the towns tallest Church tower for wonderful views too, and there's a wonderful Pizza place serving awesome Czech Beer in the main square - what more could you ask for.
Before heading back to the bus in the evening, take a walk through the town's streets and get a feel for the locals and the architecture - thats what we did and we loved it.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Another nice shot from the Czech republic. I find this square looking a bit odd. Although all the façades look different, there is a uniformity of the long line of basically same style buildings, like everything was planned at the same time. Usually places like this show how the city has grown organically, mixing styles throughout the centuries. This makes me think of a 17th century Brasilia or Islamabad, created in the architect's office. But it's pretty nevertheless, the colours are great and I enjoy the people strolling around. I could do without the pizza but I wouldn't mind a beer. In fact I'm sure I will have one when i get there.

I haven't visited Telč when I was in the Czech Republic but it's definitely a place that is still on my wishlist.
This row of houses looks so beautiful in their different colours and with their richly elaborate facades. All tops of the gables have a different shape.
The square is full of life and the clouds in the sky make an excellent background.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Craig ,
I've discoverd this outstanding line of wonderful facades on TE , with differents pictures . This is one of the best . A front view in a panotamic format , a strong , but very well managed light , and what make the difference for me , the marvelous sky .
limielski (2571) 2013-08-30 13:58
Yes I agree with you - small czech or slovak towns are picturesque. These houses look incredibly beautiful and in addition - what amazing clouds on the sky!
Have a nice weekend!

molto belle e grande questa piazza, le architetture che vi si affacciano sono splendide, come il cielo che sovrasta le persone che passeggiano tranquille.
Buon fine settimana

This is a beautiful wide view of a glorious row of buildings in Prague! The varied colours, the fine architecture, the lovely light, the people, the patterns on the cobbled ground - and all beneath a fabulous sky!
A delightful photograph, very well composed, full of details and with your usual stunning sharpness!
P.S. This looks to me like HDR but I rather suspect that it isn't!
P.P.S. Yes, you would enjoy Portugal. I've only ever visited the Algarve (in the south): it's lovely, as are the people and the places. I'll try to show you some spookier pictures than my last one! :o)

This looks an exceptionally clean and well presented row of houses with shops. The pastel colours are lovely and I like the wide angle presentation with the groups of people enjoying the sunshine on the cobbled square. Although I have been to Prague at a conference I haven't been outside the city. I would love to go back if I could avoid the crowds!
Another first class image from your European trip last year.
Best wishes, Ann

Cette ville mérite effectivement la visite. Ces façades sont très belles et variées. Tu as, en plus, bénéficié d'une excellente lumière et d'un joli ciel.

I was in Telc three days after you. It is really interesting small town, this market Square with all colourful houses is really marvelous. here you managed to show nine of them, with the most beautiful one just in the middle. Excellent composition and colours. Very nice.
I like pizza but I eat it in Italy. In Czech I prefer knedliky. And no beer for me :).
have a beautiful weekend

A lovely view about this splendid square with fantastic facades in background.
We really the old architecture, almost all houses out of Bruges in Belgium.
What a lovely panoramic view made in high quality.
Excellent composition, nice presentation.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice weekend,

Great perspective on this lovely ensemble of architecture captured under a pleasing ambient light. The people bring the scene to life and offer a sense of scale. Excellent colours and sharpness.

I know this is a weird thing to say, but those buildings look edible! They have the appearance that they could be made of icing sugar, and could be on display in a bakery window. I think perhaps its the various soft pastel colors, but whatever it is they make a spectacular scene. Especially presented against that wonderful blue sky and excellent clouds. Great positioning of the buildings in the frame too, giving great context for the wide open street.
Thanks for your comment on Riverview as well by the way, I read that with great interest. I think one of the problems (certainly in Ireland) is that successive goverments try to make the previous look bad by saying whatever they decided was wrong, and now WE will make everything better by undoing it. Whether that be close a hospital, open a hospital, demolish a complex, rebuild a complex. I think at the end of the day, they care little for those who rely on these places, its all about point scoring. We actually have a fine example of this here in Ireland called decentralization. The previous government felt the country relied too much on Dublin, as all government departments were built there and the population of the city was disproportionate to the country. So they decided to move lots of departments to the country to get people to relocate. They build huge new complexes (my own little town got the Office of Public Works), they spent a fortune paying people to relocate. The government got ousted after the economic collapse, and the new government score points by cancelling the project and leaving many new buildings empty around the country and everything back where it started. But sure hey, whats a few hundred million between friends. Grrrr..
Have a great Saturday

Hi Craig, as I always take a look of newly posted photos here, it is looking great though you have a lot of greats in your gallery. Like the colourful atmosphere. Nice colourful facades at back with assistance of a glorious sky at top. Perfectly managed the warm of light. Excellent composition and nice wide presentation. Tfs.

So you are back in the Czech Republic then.
This is a gorgeous row of these so typic hanseatic houses. Their romantic architecture and the pastel colors rend them so pleasant and the sky above is simply superb. The early morning light has done you great here.
SnapRJW (23656) 2013-08-31 8:15
The lack of highrise buildings and the wide walkways give this shot a wonderful airy feel Craig. The buildings are so beautiful, each one has individuality but the repeating arches unite them. Lovely! Warm regards Rosemary

Ciao e buon fine settimana

You had a great sky in play for this shot, it's really added another dimension and helps expand the image as a whole. I always have a tough time with angled compositions like this, they always seem to be off balance, but you have a terrific one here! It flows nicely from side to side, and looks to be quite natural on its line.
Gorgeous architecture and colors, you certainly know how to do a city proud in displaying the seemingly "routine" elements. I know you generally try to avoid as many people as possible, but they work into this image just right to give a sensation of the activity that generally exists in public squares. I'm curious too, knowing your eye for details...did you wait for the precise moment of optimal spacing? :) Enjoy the day ahead.
