Photographer’s Note
The picture shows the most important Olomouc sight, the Holy Trinity Column standing on the Upper Square (Horní náměstí).
The Holy Trinity Column in Olomouc is a magnificent Baroque monument in the Czech Republic, built in 1716–1754 in honour of God. The main purpose was a spectacular celebration of Catholic Church and faith, partly caused by feeling of gratitude for ending a plague, which struck Moravia (now in the Czech Republic) between 1714 and 1716. The column was also understood to be an expression of local patriotism, since all artists and master craftsmen working on this monument were Olomouc citizens, and almost all depicted saints were connected with the city of Olomouc in some way.
It is the biggest Baroque sculptural group in the Czech Republic. In 2000 it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as "one of the most exceptional examples of the apogee of central European Baroque artistic expression".

Hi Marketa,
Nice shot with this important monument. We can see a lot of details, really very interesting. Your note is very instructive, I thank you for sharing it with us.
Also a beautiful square, buildings with nice architecture and all those people there - a pleasant mood.
Congratulations!

Hello Marketa. A very good shot of this plaza and the extraordinary column. If you have the software you could try to straighten the sides to remove the distortion of the wide angle lens, and also try to take the shot with the people's legs included! Just wait until some people are fully in the frame. But I like the sky and the positioning of the column to the right of centre. It looks a very interesting town, thank you for the notes.
Regards,
Andrew
