Photographer’s Note

About an hour's drive from the city of Ostrava is the well preserved, historically interesting, incredibly picturesque Moravian town of Stramberk. The town is dominated by the old Strallenberg castle with its cylindrical Truba tower, which I confess I could not possibly consider climbing after a couple of large glasses of pivo. This shot was taken from the foot of the tower and shows the central part of the town and the church in the foreground, the Beskydy mountains behind.
The town dates from the 14th century and has a colourful history. It's also famous for its gingerbread pastries known as 'Stramberk ears' because of their shape. They commemmorate a victory over the Mongolians by Stramberk's Christians in the distant past. It was hard to leave the town behind on this wonderful summery day.
