Photographer's Note
Here in Brno, we can see some of the colorful communist style architecture.
This is extremely odd, normally the communist style is very bland, with lots of grey concrete. To see the greens yellows and reds on the apartment buildings in full color was certainly a surprise.
Thanks for looking :)

Hello Craig,
if these are the comunism colors maybe this system wasn't not entirely wrong ;-) Joking of course, but the colors are really nice. Strange mix of traditional and modern buildings makes your shot really interesting. Well spotted and delivered.
Thanks for sharing!

Hello Craig,
This is definitely an interesting view, not just because of the bright and cheerful communist memorials but for the great mix of various styles ranging from very old to quite new. Are you sure those colorful buildings actually looked like this right from the start, and that they were not originally built in the famous grey, drab communist style with colors added in the 90's? This has been the case in Albania, which is now possibly the most colorful country in Europe. Even in Sweden, which was never communist, there were a lot of drab, grey houses built in the 60's and 70's when the government decided to get rid of the housing shortage and started an intense construction campaign in new suburbs. Many of those were later given splashes of color in a desperate attempt to make the boring suburbs more attractive.
Best regards,
Gert

Like Gert, I'm guessing those colors are more recent additions to the buildings; I don't recall seeing any like that on my trip to the Czech Republic in 1995, when most of the Soviet-era architecture was still gray concrete slab. I certainly like this better - it adds some life and shine to the otherwise drab high rises. Nice view of these in context, with some of Brno's older, much more beautiful buildings around to compare.

Ciao Craig
interessante panoramica di questa parte di città, di solito si fotografano sempre le opere più importanti o le cose più curiose, fa piacere conoscere anche le zone più comuni delle città, come questi palazzi dai colori originali.

Ho Craig - A great view across the town. Surely the utilitarian buildings have been painted to make them look less austere? An interesting mix of architecture but what really attracts me to this town is the woodland which surrounds it and the green spaces between the buildings. A fine shot full of excellent and interesting detail. Warm regards rosemary

Craig
Je pense que les immeubles d'origine ont été "égayés" par des peintures récentes. Bon point de vue sur cette architecture typique du moment.

Hello Craig,
There is certainly much to see in this urban landscape and it is really quite astonishing that this communist era architecture is so interesting, even having a certain charm. A very well presented image, captured under a good light and with superb colours and sharpness.

Hi Craig
a great POV that shows us so perfectly the imagination that went into brightening up the residential tower blocks ("flats" in the UK). A very modern looking town that still finds place for the wonderful old church. Compelling image, creatively composed and presented.
Have a great weekend - Brian.

Hello Craig,
Colors on those dwelings applied after the fall of the old regime, they were all in one grey color, and now got a more vivid apearence.
Nice taken from a higher POV, this industrial town mentioned in my late father's memories as a place his family took refuge in WW1 from Poland. He wrote that he remember this town as a happy place.
Nice picture with super clear elements, as you always do.

Hi Craig,
Like yourself, I'm a bit surprised to see brightly coloured buildings which date from the communist era but I suspect, as Gert says, that these buildings have probably been "spruced up" with a lick or two of paint. Here in Britain there was a vogue for building hideously bland grey concrete slab-sided buildings in the 1960s and 1970s and quite a few of those (which have not been demolished) have been "pimped" by adding some sort of colourful features to give them a bit of a "lift".
A lovely colourful picture photographed from on high - you must have found a convenient hill overlying this part of the city - with your usual wealth of details and excellent clarity and sharpness. Beautiful colours and spot-on exposure too. I'm guessing this one was not HDR?
Excellent!
Kind Regards,
John.
P.S. We've had a little snow here but not much and definitely not as much as they have had in England and Wales. Some snow last night (hence today's picture) but forecast is for heavy rain and wind and a thaw over the weekend - sounds like it's going to be like Vancouver!
P.P.S. A friend (actually Martin [MJR] here) told me about a website I think you'd be interested in. This guy, Ben Cooper, who, I think, lives in the Glasgow area, does all sorts of crazy things like breaking into derelict buildings and climbing onto the roofs of buildings at night - and takes pictures. You might be interested to look at his blog here and you can then search through all the different categories of pictures too! See what you think!

A very intersting plunging view on this colorful city . From here , it feels quite pleasant . The old church is like an incongruous element in thismodern architecture .

Hello Craig,
in fact these old blocks of flats are fresh painted to get a slightly better look but you are right that they used to be mostly grey. The most of these buildings need a lot of repairs now after about 30 years and most of them are being coloured, I grew up in a similar one. It had grey colour with a dark blue stripe around and with dark blue balcony railings. Ugly way of living, they are spoiling the beauty of the towns.
A good picture of documentary value.
Best regards

Hello Craig,
The downward view, the mix of styles and colors and the framing with the vegetation makes this image very appealing. The high chimney stands like the guardian of this habitation complex. Very nice colors and sharpness.

Hi Craig
Extremely odd, perhaps, but a cool view and a nice collection of great examples of the architecture of this periode. I have seen some examples of this kind of architecture here on TE before, especially I remember some good one from member Rychem, and I remember I saw some examples myself in Poland, but never get the chance to photograph them. The old church is a nice addition and provides some balance to the more modern architecture. Great shot, Craig!

Hello Craig.
A splendid panorama, clear and bright .... that allows us to see in detail the many elements that gives this composition, full of contrasts ... Gothic church in the foreground, as you say these communist era houses that look like big boxes, luckily these are color ... is an image with a large DOF, performed flawlessly.
Enjoy the weekend.
Best regards.
Luis.
