The lamp lighter does this routine daily & very fast, it took me two nights to get any sort of photo because he does not seem to care for camaras, however this is a lovely ceremony that i would hope will go on for years to come, The city of Prague is planing 200 more of those gas lamps.
Very hard job, because the person resposable must mantain their working order at all times. Those lamps are high maintanace.Used to be very respectable and prestage job ( THIS LAST BIT OF INFORMATION WAS KINDLY GIVEN TO ME BY FELLOW TE MEMBER RENE DUBEC A310) .

sympathique cette tradition.
J'adore les traditions, elles sont précieuses et des fois, leur perte ne se rattrappe jamais.
Une photo plaisante, une ambiance rétro dans laquelle on aimerait se plonger des fois.

Wow this is an excellent daily life shot Wilson. I never knew that this ceremony existed anywhere in the world anymore. Fantastic capture even though it took you a while to snap him. Great. Wishing you a happy 2007.

Hi Wilson, this is a very good capture. I'm surprised he doesn't want to be photographed. Judging from his costume (uniform?) he looks like he is almost acting out a part. Composition, lighting and colour are all great.

Très jolie tradition que ces "allumeurs de lampe".
Bonne ambiance rétro et agréable.

An interesting picture, does this fellow have to go around and put out the lights later? My only criticisms are the image seems to be leaning to the right, it could be sharper and it would have been good if we could have seen the actual flame, it's obscured here by the lamp body frame. Next time ask the gentleman to slow down for you.

What a great shot, i didn't think they did this any more, mind in saying that it is Prague and they say it is a beautiful city me and my husband are going to go this year, did you get any shots of that famous clock in the square Wilson apparently they are life size figurine's so they say.

funny folkloristic christmas picture that brings us in the atmosphere of Dickens. Good light and composition.

The picture is a bit dark, but I will put it on the fact the lamp lighter has not yet lighted all the street lamps... More seriously, this is a very interesting pciture, showing a profession that I thought to have disappeared with the electrication of street lighting. This picture come strait of the 19th century, when gas was used for lighting. Thanks for sharing,

Lovely night time photo of this man buy at his craft. I'm thinking of the poor man with this job when Thomas Edison put him out of work.
