The Dancing House or Fred and Ginger is the nickname given to the Nationale-Nederlanden building in Prague, Czech Republic, at Raínovo nábřeí (Raín's riverbank). It was designed by the Croatian-Czech architect Vlado Milunić in co-operation with the renowned Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry on a vacant riverfront plot. The building was designed in 1992 and completed in 1996.
The very non-traditional design was controversial at the time because the house stands out among the Baroque, Gothic and Art Nouveau buildings for which Prague is famous and in the opinion of some it does not accord well with these architectural styles. The then Czech president, Václav Havel, who lived for decades next to the site, had avidly supported this project, hoping that the building would become a center of cultural activity.
Gehry originally named the house Fred and Ginger (after the famous dancers Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers the house resembles a pair of dancers)but this nickname is now rarely used; moreover, Gehry himself was later "afraid to import American Hollywood kitsch to Prague", so refuted his own idea.

there are stooping street lamps In polish known mountain town Zakopane - inhabitants of this town named them "drinked street lamp" ( see here )
A very interesting architecture is showed by you in this photo. The sharpness is excellent and the whole photo, too of course !

Very nice close-up of Fred and Ginger. :-) I have seen these buildings many times in photos, but this POV allows me to actually see more details of the building on the left. Nice framing and bits of reflections as well. I love Gehry's buildings; he has a unique sense of style.

Hi Ciao dear Luciano
Again I admire your keen attention. Very unique synmetry architecture is very well presented via so sharp and nice metaric color touch. Vertical format is very nice selection too.
Thanks a lot for your sharing and have a good day!

Ciao caro Luciano,
A very interesting note and a wonderful photograph which you have uploaded!
The lighting on the curved surfaces of this building and its windows is divine. The reflections of blue sky on the curved glass on the left are beautiful too and your composition is excellent, this being a picture almost in two vertical halves and with all the elements pleasingly placed within the frame.
You have also used the new upload sizes to good effect to produce a striking tall photograph. Gorgeous light and colours, perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.
ACL1978 (6497) 2013-09-02 18:41
Clever crop here, Luciano - there is a strong temptation to shoot the whole of the two buildings, but this gives the viewer a nice sense of the overall form while focusing on the details. Amazing to think that this is now one of Prague's defining buildings; when I visited in the 1990s it was still highly controversial!
macjake (45540) 2013-09-02 20:13
yes, I have a photo or two of this building in my collection aswell, and about 20 or 30 in my laptop sitting waiting to be seen! haha
The famous Fred and Ginger building is a subject that was right at the TOP of my to-photograph-list in Prague, it was so cool to see it in person :)
I like your compo here, it shows the two distinct styles and the man/woman in unicen as one :)
some harsh light is seen, but its out of your control, not much you can do about it!
Did you get any blue hour shots?
We made sure to come back for the blue hour
see you around! good shot!

Nice detail from this Ginger and Fred house (I use rather this name). But when it is only small detail the dancing is not so well seen. Pleasant colours. Nicely composed and with excellent sharpness.
Nearby there is a famous cafe where Havel went very often. But they had no pizza there :) (knedliky and svickova)so you probably didn't go there.
have a nice day

This is a shot of reflections, architecture and unsymmetrical symmetry, composed with excellence.
This is a composition which you have framed tightly. There is no scope of breath here, and here in lies the beauty.
You have made mine eyes reach there, where you want the viewers to pay attention.
This is great.
dkmurphys (42389) 2013-09-03 1:51
A fine detail of that iconic building from Prague. Crazy lines and shapes, well taken.

snunney (72558) 2013-09-03 2:06
The close framing is ideal, emphasising the graphism of the architecture. The image is well lit and has very good colours and sharpness.
Bartleby (13238) 2013-09-03 2:32
I've seen several pictures of this building but I think I like your close-up best. I adds to its intriguing nature. Did you use a polarizer here? I think that could come in handy to get different results?
subhendu_bagchi (20940) 2013-09-03 4:18
it is really a nice view of these interesting architectural buildings. Nice close composition with the distorted building. Like the strong colour contrast. Excellent depth and sharpness. The light management is awesome. Superb work. Tfs.
gervaso (9247) 2013-09-03 5:03
When I first saw your picture, I thought it was a distorted reflection or something like that. It's incredible, and very photogenic! Really interesting building, and the closed framing is perfect to show it! Excellent job!
Noel_Byrne (13182) 2013-09-03 5:10
These buildings are really cool, I have loved them since I first learned about them. I would have thought that by not getting the entire building in the frame, it would take away a little from the sense of movement and whimsy, but quite the opposite. By focusing on this smaller area, you created a unique take on the place, and managed to keep that fluid movement. Really nicely done.
All the best
timecapturer (36924) 2013-09-03 5:27
I love this building and would love to visit Prague and see it first hand. (Its on my list!) Really like this close crop too, it is effective and full of elegant curves that contrast so beautifully with the straight lines. Excellent!
Sergiom (45214) 2013-09-03 5:31

Complimenti e grazie!
Tanti saluti e buona giornata,
jmdias (48289) 2013-09-03 6:56

Ciao e buona serata

Bonsoir, cher Luciano,

Ciao caro Luciano
A striking contrast in architectural styles between the 2 buildings depicted here. Good sharpness and punchy light contrasts yet with negligible oe in the highlights. Effective tight framing and the central balcony makes a good focal point. Tfs!

I should have known, there's a Frank Gehry design building in Las Vegas that is becoming very famous. And there are also two condo buildings on the Las Vegas Strip that are titled, very interesting design but I don't think I want to live in them. Nice capture of this apartment with good details. Well done, tfs.

Luciano, I have a shot of this house, but from a boat on the Vltava. When we were there, we never did get to see it up close like this. You picked a really interesting collection of detail here, with the balcony, reflection, and even the wires lending a lot of visual interest. Very sharp, with interesting blue reflections everywhere. Thanks.
jcpix (6456) 2013-09-06 20:34
I wanted to comment on this the other day and unfortunately got distracted before I could return!? In the simplest of terms, bravo!! :) This is really great, a fresh take on this iconic and recognizable building. It's been shown many times, and although always interesting, this particular composition is one that I had not seen until now.
The tighter composition has put more emphasis and focus on the design, and I believe gives it a much more impactful visual as opposed to the traditional, wider view. For someone like me who enjoys patterns and shapes, this is a treat. Well done sir! Have a terrific weekend. Take care.
agjika (4309) 2013-09-07 1:31
One heck of a an architecture. Well presented.
bayno (18334) 2013-09-07 5:27

I just couldn´t resist after seing this one.
Although we´ve seen quite many different pictures of this building,I must say your close-up view definitely stands out from all others!Excellently zoomed and framed scene and concentration of geometrical aspect of this architecture makes the scene and its effect more expressive.
nikkitta (8869) 2013-09-09 19:02
This dancing house is a marvel of symmetric color contrast and reflections
Well done to crop a long detail of it in a vertical way
Informative note also

Pero, mi piacerrebbe vedere l'edifizion intero in WS.
Grazie per condividere.
CLODO (26345) 2013-09-10 5:05
good crop to make us wonder why the distorted building is resting on the normal one!
josepmarin (56467) 2013-09-10 10:44
Bien vista, y perfectamente realizada.
yquem46 (35222) 2013-09-10 10:47
Excellent close up shot of this famous house in Prague
I saw it but could not figure out what to do with that
obviously you had more imagination
well done, best regards

And they're dancing cheek-to-cheek! What an interesting structure, thanks for sharing with us this unique construction with photographic finesse.
Glint (5903) 2013-09-12 10:04
you have chosen a good title for this image. It seems to me that the building on the left is imploring the rather stiff and emotionless building on the right to join in a tango.
You have captured a good light with excellent sharpness.
serp2000 (33043) 2013-09-14 20:58
Yes, this is very original building in Prague. Good idea to make so attractive eye-catching house indeed. Fine close up, excellent details of the construction. TFS!

Hi again Luciano
You definitely have got an eye for interesting composition. I have seen a lot of photos showing the whole of these two buildings but never a detail shot.
Have a nice weekend
SnapRJW (23510) 2013-09-22 2:32
Hello Luciano - Looking through your recent uploads, it should come as no surprise that I choose this one to comment on. It has been rightly appreciated by so many! I like the close crop here, usually we see these building from a distance. Your presentation adds a persona to the buildings which fits in the the dancer idea. Ginger is leaning most seductively against Fred and her sinuous curves contrast with his masculine lines. The rhythm created by the repeating windows add to the dance theme as well. A fine and fascinating composition. Warm regards rosemary

"Love is a many splendored thing" and consequently, those two building became one!!
Quite attractive indeed!

Mon mari partira seulement dimanche prochain.
