Photographer’s Note

...and things are not so black and white as they sometimes seem (sometimes they are tinted with sepia ;-))

...this is strong noon light on the main square in the beautiful Czech town, Hradec Králové...three towers belong to the old cathedral and the so-called White Tower...Former the renaissace bell tower, completed in 1589. There is situated the second biggest bell in Bohemia. With its unusual timekeeping system where longer minute hand shows hours andshorter hand shows minutes the White tower becomes top-tourist city attraction. The tower is 71.5metres high.

The history of the city stretch beck to midieval times and its beginning dates back to year 1225. Hradec Kralove was at that time the royal fortress town and had already become the centre of East Bohemia in the Middle Ages. It did not loose its importance in any of the following historical periods, for example during the Hussite movement, later as the Bishop’s seat, as a military fortress (the battle at Chlum in 1866) etc. Its unique collection of historical sights and structures consists of gothic, rennaisance and baroque monuments. The city also takes pride in its modern architecture monuments from the 20th century.
