Photographer’s Note

I was inspired by Shelly's shot to post this picture and I borrowed her title. I hope she does not mind. :-)

The junction of two rivers (Labe /Elbe and Orlice) in the town of Hradec Králové. The true winter came two days before the end of children's Xmas holiday / it was a pity, but it is so beautiful. Unfortunately I am not healthy enough these days to walk around and to take more pictures, I hope you like at least this one.

A very nice wintershot. The composition is very nice with all parts of the picture filled with something interesting to look at. Despite the area in the foreground being in the shade it's still properly exposed.

no, I don't mind at all. :)) And that IS winter! Lovely wintry light, great contrast and beautiful cool tones. I love the composition with the water coming in from two different sides and the bare trees adding a bit of warm color to the scene. Wonderful winter shot. Many thanks and warmest regards,

Hello Romana.
A very nice winter scene this one. Very good exposure with your camera of the ice and the snow. Some lovely blue and brown tones too. I like the quite bright mound of snow in the middle of the picture, a good highlight.
I met an English teacher called Romana, also with blonde hair, who looks much like you, in Ostrava in June 2007, with my Czech relative David. But of course, it cannot be you if you live in Hradec Králové. Still, it's a coincidence.

Yes, it's a great winter scene...
You've chosen a pleasant landscape, and the composition is very well thought : the two parts of the river give depth to your picture. It is very well composed.
The quality is fine, but I think your image tends to blue tones, and that there a slight lose of details in the dark background.
I hope you don't mind, I've tried a WS.

Perfect evocation of winter on a sunny day, Romana.
I love the way the brilliantly lit 'nose' between the rivers grabs one's attention, with the cold blues all around and other little touches of white in a triangle. The WS does not give me the same thrill.
Hoping you are keeping better now, or at least still able to take photos indoors.
