Photographer’s Note
The city is very close to the Czech-German border. The city was founded in the 14th century, by the Charles IV.
Taken from the legend, the area was used by royalty during the hunting season. And it was on one of this expeditions when Charles wounded a deer, which managed to run away. They ran after it, and the hounds found the deer lying next to some pond, in the middle of which the water was gurgling. When the King reached to grab the animal, his wounded hand touched the water. It is said that the wound healed a lot faster than it usually would. That's why he thought that this water has special features that can help people.
He decided then, to establish a new town, which took his name. For the last 3-4 centuries the city/town of Karlovy Vary has been world-famous for the curative water springs and spa.
One of the 2 rivers that go through the city is called Tepla (czech for 'warm'). It has this name because the river never freezes, even during the winter time. It always has warm water for the warm spring waters pouring in it, from the hotels.
