Zrinjevac, this is the name of the intimate park of platanes in the very heart of Zagreb. This park is a park-member of the so called of Green Horseshoe, a string of beautiful parks and gardens in the historic downtown of Zagreb.

The name of it comes from the great leader Nicola Zrinji respected by not just the croates, but the hungarians also. The men of the family Zrinji was a really talented fencers and poets too. They were the leaders of the whole southern Pannonian region, the territory of today's northern Croatia, eastern Slovenia and southern Hungary. The hungarian history of literature knows Nicola Zrinji (the great-grandchild of the famous counter-turkish fighter) as a uniquely talented baroque poet.

This park was the most popular meeting point in the city in the 1880's, when the croatian nation felt herself repressed by Austria and Hungary in the dualist (double centered in Vienna and Budapest) state.

In the background there is the famous music pavilion, that was the centre of summer night events.

Nowadays the park is one of the most beloved places in the city because of the intimate charme of the surrounding palaces and the hundred-year-old platanes.
