The old walled city of Dubrovnik, viewed from 400m. (about 1000ft) high, with Lokrum island at top left. Taken from the upper cable car station which no longer exists, it was destroyed in the recent war, it is still accessible by car or walking, I cheated and drove up. I will be spending some more time in the former jugoland in october, so this photo is a sign of things to come.
Photo dedicated to Andre Agassi, a man of my age who retired today, after a memorable career, makes me feel so old :-(

Hi old man ... :) I wish I have your age ..
Great aerial photo, it's amazing the colours of the roofs and the sea, the boat or something aproaching is a must.
The DOF, POV and sharpness are great too.
vascao (192) 2006-09-03 19:35
Oh dear, what a beautiful image! A very privileged POV and a very clever composition, with stunning colors, bravo!
timleahy (2195) 2006-09-03 19:46
Excellent shot! The colours and sharpness are superb. Great compoosition too, very good balance between the elements of city, island and sea.
InasiaJones (31444) 2006-09-03 20:13
Great overview shot of this old town, shoot by an old guy...The location seems paradisiac and the inclusion of the boat make it looks like a tropical island. The intricate pattern of houses also provides a feeling of urbanism of the past, as well as fortified walls.
The colors are nice and crisp, and the island is perfectly placed in the image. I’m loving it!
singuanti (15250) 2006-09-03 22:05
Hi Tan. You know at first I assumed this was taken in Greece. It looks like you had some image quality issues in the water but I still think it's a great shot. As usual your colors and saturation are both awesome.
pilpel-adom (3018) 2006-09-04 0:51
Very nice shot, Tan! Great high-to-low POV with good compositional eye to bring us this antique gem of the Balkans...Timing is very good as to include the speedboat with the small Island and the lower part framing of the rocks...
Very very nice!

You don’t have to feel old because a young tennis player called the quits!!! It is life!!!
I like your photo. It is simply superb taken from a high POV. The composition with the island is excellent and the colours are perfect. Well done.
lestans (17030) 2006-09-04 2:06
Great view on the old town and the island!! Perfect composition, colors and sharpnes are also perfect, the place is beautiful as all of us know but this view is fantastic. A little boat in the sea is the cherry on the cake!
greecelightning (284) 2006-09-04 2:16
Amazing view. The contrast may be a bit high, giving the photo a "fake" feel; but the photo is very good overall. Nice job!
DarkoG (8) 2006-09-04 3:00
Nice shot of one of most interesting town in the world. Nice colours and clarity.
By the way, the hill from where you take this photo is called Srdj.
Glad you'll came in my country soon.
Angelillo (9372) 2006-09-04 3:03
It is a beautiful image of this city. We can see his ancient form and the wall that surrounds it. I like the point of view also, from the mountain that it makes all the things small. I proved something similar in Stromboli. The small city opposite to the immense sea. Good contrast of colors and lights. Very beautiful.
rbcy1974 (20758) 2006-09-04 3:31
BEautifully composed, the way the island is placed in the frame is excellent,
very well done and proportional.
PS1 GOt your message, I will send you an email with directions of how to get to my house. Plenty of things to do around here.
PS2 You are 36? You are right you are old!!
ktanska (24170) 2006-09-04 3:44
That looks steep! The town looks wery crowded. And quite special with it's walls. Wonderful blue tone on the sea.
Angshu (54765) 2006-09-04 3:58
This one has your trademark POV...the deep colours are superb. I like the clustered red roofs in the walled city contrasting superbly with the deep blue waters & the green island. Wonderful!
Gerrit (44321) 2006-09-04 4:14
a spectaculair view. Good inclusion of the foreground and real mediterrenean colours.
PixelTerror (0) 2006-09-04 4:23
This one is a bit different from the obvious Dubrovnik view, and this eagle view matches perhaps better what we know as Captain's PoV. The contrasting colors are strong and the trace of the boat is a nice added value here, I like as well the lonely island off the coast.
Does your european trip go through Basel sometime ? if yes, when ?
Have a nice day,
daddo (22732) 2006-09-04 4:24
Hi Tan. A great shot of a happier time for all those affected by the war.Wonderful colours, that deep blue is incredible. The city really stands out by contrast, basked by the sun.Lovely, balanced composition. Pozdrav. Klaudio
delkoo (68) 2006-09-04 4:44
nice view of Dubrovnik, i like the small harbour and the boat coming in as the strong colours and composition.
Guenther (10915) 2006-09-04 5:32
a very spectacular view of this beautiful city. The inclusion of the island and the boat makes a perfect composition.
PS: You shouldn't feel old as long you are able to travel around the world and take a lot of gorgeous pictures :)

super vue aérienne comme tu sais si bien les faire, ces toits rouges flashentun max sur la photo, avec ce bleu de l'eau. bravo

tcht (7565) 2006-09-04 6:03
That little boat makes the compo so good. The little whiteness of it contrasts very well the rest. Good framing include all important parts. Really beautiful work. Good tribute to one of the greatest players. :)
jafadabret (56501) 2006-09-04 8:12
Tan, c'est une photo superbe avec en premier plan la ville et ses toits rouges. La mer y est magnifique avec des couleurs de rêve. Le petit bateau et son sillage ainsi que l'île verte complètent admirablement le paysage.
pasternak (15177) 2006-09-04 9:29
Nice postcard view from the POV that is widely known as your trademark. This small green island really makes the whole shot, as it provides a pleasant contrast of colours with the red roofs of the town. Could be used by the tourist board for promotion purposes!
rahul__rahul__ (2250) 2006-09-04 11:29
nice POV, I like the red roofs andpositioning of the island in the top left corner.
Budapestman (82620) 2006-09-04 12:06
What a view and mood! Fantastic shot! Very spectacular and particular details! Excellent composition and great POV! Fascinating colours and lights! Picturesque photo!
Thank you, nice days

very nice view, great light fallen on the roofs, good point of view, very nice job.
Tue (26324) 2006-09-04 14:13
Wonderful view of the city from this place! I love the colour contrasts between the orange roofs of the houses, the very blue sea and the green island. The composition is nice and that little boat is a great addition. Good work!
Cormac (26545) 2006-09-04 16:50
I like this unusual point of view, looking down from far above. The unusual view shows not only the detail, but it also looks like kind of an abstract, with the shapes of the town and the island being well balanced. Excellent!
Xalkida (11744) 2006-09-04 18:03
This place reminds me Monemvasia in Pelonissos, Greece! Great view from high with fantastic colors and excellent handle of lighting. A marvelous work!
ChrisJ (94806) 2006-09-04 23:37
I like the warm vs cold color opposition, between the red rooftops & blue sea. A marvellous high pov, with good color & saturation. Tfs!
john_c (24662) 2006-09-05 12:56
A bird's eye view of this picturesque but war scarred city. I like the hues and tones here and dramatic perspective. The walled battlements are clearly visible and the island in the upper left nicely balances the frame. Crisp and clean. Well captured....and I agree about the tribute to Agassi.
MLINES (12516) 2006-09-05 19:07
Hi Tan, Excellent cropping to present this famous city. The capture of those distinctive red rooves and the sea beyond is a classic. Murray.
arjun_das (1851) 2006-09-06 6:41
excellent bird's eye view of the place. i like the land isolated in dark water. also the boat on the water creating nice effect. tfs.
Muse (34938) 2006-09-06 7:13
Une jolie photo qui ouvre une belle perspective sur ce paysage et la ville.
L'image est nette et les teintes briques contrastent bien avec la mer.
Have a good day
abulafia (4900) 2006-09-07 11:54
It allways impress me that you are able to find these elevated viewpoints!
I love this shot of Dubrovnik, yet another place on my list of places i would like to visit.
veronika (6052) 2006-09-10 16:40
Oh Oh this is amazing view Tan! Im posting pictures from Dubrovnik last days, so this one caught not only my eyes but also my heart, wonderful beloved city of mine :))
banyanman (7789) 2006-09-12 15:34
You do like climbing those hills, Tan, but you certainly find some great POVs for your landscape shots. Well framed and excellent sharpness and saturation. This provides an interestibg alternative to the usual shot that most people take from along the coast road. Cheers . . . David
PS: I just re-read your note and see that you cheated this time and didn't walk up. You must be getting old after all!
bazal (7900) 2006-09-13 7:08
It's not such an usual view of Dubrovnik you share here. I like the composition with the island of Lokrum a bit isolated in the left upper part. The contrast with the deep blue sea and the red tile rooves is really nice. Thanks for sharing!
pboehringer (770) 2006-09-16 11:27
Stunning overview of the famous city of Dubrovnik. Your bird-view composition shows clearly the old premises of the town as well as it's importance as a major harbour city competing once with big Venice.
bakes888 (18499) 2006-09-21 2:41
Hi Tan. Wait till you get to my age and tell me how old you feel ;-). Great view. I love all those orange roofs. I think the boat wake adds a bit of life to the sea. Thanks for sharing.
rabdelnoor (3421) 2006-09-26 21:36
Nice to see you keep posting such beautiful places. The view is great, contrasting the old city with this wonderful blue sea.
My best regards,

Hi Captain POV, a long since i didn't visit your awesome gallery, here i go with some of my prefered in your last posts. This one has perhaps an unbeatable POV, colors are perfectly saturated and the blue of the sea is terrific, putting very well inevidence the marvelous city of dubrovnik.
Lol your note with your reference to dre agassi ;)
pady (4800) 2007-01-12 15:02
Beautiful picture from above
The sea is so blue and you shot the boat entering the harbour, it's a nice moment.
Very nice composition
A very old man of 44 years old!!
Julian_K (1055) 2007-02-14 7:42
Once again spectacular point of view and absolutely perfect composition. I can't stop looking at this photo - magnificent!
pvinagre (202) 2007-03-07 16:42
UAU Magnificent details. Just one small Itch - a little less detail or color of the roof s might give a more real appearance. Otherwise still Splendid picture.
vero07 (1781) 2007-04-15 10:30
That's a wonderful view over Dubrovnik capturing the island of Lokrum. Have you ever stayed in this island? it's a paradise...
