Photographer’s Note

Bale is a small village not far from Vodnjan, about ten kilometers north from Pula.
Located on the top of a hill, like many others villages of the inland of Istarska, it has preserved its medieval flair. One single alley runs round through the old centre,accessible through two arches surrounded by thick walls, and comes out at a little square overlooked by the old a church.
The place is for sure worth a visit.

nice atmospheric photo. i like very much this kind of narrow medieval streets and this one is just perfect...without any sign that it was taken in 21st century.

Nice composition and good exposure too - you have kept the detail in the dark areas without overexposing the lighter areas. I always find this tricky!

Bonjour Samuele,
Je trouve bien dommage que cette photo n'ait pas obtenu plus de points compte tenu de sa qualité artistique d'une part et de son histoire, d'autre part.
Une photo très difficile à réaliser avec les hautes et basses lumières. J'aime ces vieux pavés qui se marient avec élégance aux vieilles pierres scellées à joints vifs.
Une très belle photo, sans aucun doute.

These arches are a very attractive subject although many times not easy to photograph. And you did well here with the slight uncentered view, taking advantage of the street curve to create a good leading line through the composition. The textures of the stones and the houses are very nice too.

Still, in this case I think you could have taken advantage of the beautiful stones of the street by pointing a bit lower. You would still keep part of the plants at the top, and show the gri«oun texture increasing the mentioned leading line effect. Good exposure control.

Bella foto e di difficile realizzazione Samuele, l'esposizione con una così grande differenza di luce fra ombre e alte luci è sempre un campo minato.
Bella anche la composizione, ottima scelta del centro di interesse: fa venir voglia di sapere cosa si cela là dietro la curva.
Forse si poteva croppare un pochino la parte superiore delle foglie e il muro di sinistra per dare ancor più interesse all'immagine centrale.

Very nice image. I really like these passageways/alleys that are found in medieval villages. The curve in the alley lends some mystery to the image and makes me wonder what is just around the corner.

Nice curve to the lovely cobblestone path. The light is well managed. It lacks a human element which in my opinion would complete this composition. But this is nice too.

Hello Samuele, this is a great photo of this alley covered with ivy. We get the sense that the walker would feel meandering in this street, the low gate here, and the cobble stones. Very european.

I remember this place very well.
We went to Croatia two years ago and felt in love with this small village of Bale.
I fully agree, it's worth the visit and you picture renders it very well.
