Photographer's Note

This is a scanned picture from one of my old slides, so technically it is not up to today’s standards but I included it because it shows a very unique site. The walls of this city run an uninterrupted course of approximately 2 km in length, encircling most of the old city, and reach a maximum height of about 25 m. The bulk of the existing walls and fortifications were constructed during the 14th and 15th centuries, but were continually extended and strengthened up until the 17th century.
