Photographer’s Note

Slavonia, the region between the rivers Sava, Drava and Danube, is made up of a vast rolling alluvial plain with chains of hills at its edges which are covered in woods and vineyards and is one of the most fertile areas of Europe.

The capital of Slavonia by the river of Drava.

Due to its position on the River Drava, Osijek has always played a strategic role. In 1991, after declaration of independence by Croatia, the city was bombed for over a year by Yugoslav forces and much of the old centre was damaged. Liberated in 1995, in 1998 Osijek became part of the Croat staate again.
