Here is a view from the south coast of the Hvar island which is located roughly between Split and Dubrovnik.
50 km long and about 4 km large, this island is quite touristic on its main town, Hvar, but once you left that west part, you feel you found a calm place of "Provence" close to the sea. On almost each hill, one can find wineyards and lavanda fields. The wine produced here and sold in almost each farm is very tasty.
The clearness of the sea is absolutely incredible and as the shore transforms itself very rapidly into deep depth, that's why you can see on a small distance that almost white sea becoming deep blue. The relief is so steep on such a small island that there is 1.4 km one way tunel to reach that south part of the island from Jelsa located on the north coast.
The island was under the rule of different empires through History : Illyrians fighting the Greeks in IVth BC; the Greeks, the Romans then the Byzantin Empire; Slave tribes between the VII and the VIIIth centuries; Croatia in the XIth; Venice in from 1331 to 1797. Then it joined the Dalmatian province which was respectively conquested by the Austrian Empire, The French one before being part of the Empire made of Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia which would lead to the Yougoslavia.
Original framing; I applied USM via PS7 and Barrel distorsion correction via PTlens.

Thanks for the interesting note, Steven. I remember vacations on the croatian coast a long time ago, the shore is really beautiful, and I'm glad to hear the water is still as clear as it used to be. Your photo is excellent - it really shows the unique nature of the coast there!
