Photographer’s Note
We are still on the waterfront of the medieval town of Trogir with the water behind us. As you see the sun is still shining, but the black storm clouds are encroaching.
On the island town of Trogir, there are several churches, which ensure you don’t sleep late, as the bells enthusiastically inform you of the time at regular intervals. :D Here on the waterfront, you can see the church and monastery of St Dominic, built in the 14th century.
Within the medieval town walls is the Cathedral of St Lawrence in John Paul II Square.

Hello Kath,
Heisenberg was correct when he said, "Never underestimate how much pleasure it gives a man to see what he already knows!" Indeed, I stood at the very spot, and took the same photo in 2006, but nowhere as successfully as yours. This is one of the finest shots I've seen from Croatia, the palm trees framing the tower of the Cathedral, and creating both texture and form. Bravo!
Warm regards,
Bulent

Hello Kath
It's a beautiful view. I like old stone made churches and houses by the sea. This one looks nice between the palm trees. Colors are perfect, and the sky gives it something special. Great photo.
Have a nice day!

Hello Kath,
A pleasing view on this old church nicely framed by the palm trees. The dark clouds add to the atmosphere and make a good foil for the church tower. Very good colours and clarity.

Hello Kath,
Une belle église avec un arrière plan gris de très bon effet ici.
Même si les tentes de l'avant plan manque un peu d'esthétique, j'aime bien le coté imposant des palmiers.
Bien vu !

Hi Kath,
You framed the church tower beautifully with such a good use of the palm trees. The old architecture stands out really nicely against the dark clouds too. Very well seen and captured, thanks for sharing!

Hi Kath,
You are posting fast ;-)
I like this, not just in the composition and framing but more in the colour. Deep toning, great yellow/reds against that dark blue/grey sky. The way how the leaves just fall between the churchtower is well thought and composed. Absolute not to bright, it looks great...

Very strong dramatic effect of that sky and light.
The title and the palms made me think, firstly, of the Dominican Republic.

Hi Kath,
well so here`s my second critique:
Again a great shot, the sky looks dramatic, which is very nice! It doesn`t always have to be perfectly blue. I really like the view through the palms, a nice composition!

Hola Kath.
Excellent shot with the beautiful church surrounded by palm trees, very nice scenery. Your point of view is good and also colors and details, the lighted church is enhance by the grey sky. Maybe cropping the big umbrellas and lamps will take off modern subjects and keep your wonderful scenery as it was many years ago, it's just an idea, nothing special.
Well done.
Cheers.

Hello Kath,
You have placed yourself perfectly for this shot! I like how the two trees are framing the church tower, and one of them is providing an umbrella against the oncoming storm!
Good dof to capture the details on the trunks so well and also on the buildings.

A shot of precise cropping Kath.
I like the way, how you held your arms high up in the air,
first to capture the majestic palm trees and the top of the builiding, and secondly to avoid the canoppies below.
Its the mood of the shot.....which says......Well Done, with absolute clarity.

Hi Kath,
You arranged a superb palm trees frame to the tower. The covered sky mixed with the sun on the FG produces a strange and beautiful atmosphere, that combines well with the medieval look of the church and the rest of the square.
Emile did a good work cloning the modern vestiges, but they don't bother me in the original. As a matter a fact, I think I prefer that they are included. The tents make me imagine a fair.
Regards, José.

Hello Kath
I have a feeling you would have bent yourself someway or the other to make this perfect framing of the bell tower between the palm leaves. The dark sky helps in the contrast a lot especially with the dried palm leaves & the red tiles on the roof. Good work!

Hi Kath, I seem to lost a bit, working..
Nice POV here, I love the coconut framing. The heavy cloudy atmosphere is nice like the previous one, however I don't know if you have a shiny blue sky if that scene would look better or different. If you see that little window on the right top, imagine the whole sky under that colour, see what I mean?
However the old stoned tower matches with those heavy clouds, and those coconut trees matches with the blue sky! Tricky isn't it?

Hi Kath,
Your thoughtful framing makes trhis photo very special; as Henk comments, you really got the steeple framed just right by the palms. You managed the gloomy werather so well that nobody speaks of difficult light; you have really captured that light-before-a-storm feel very effectively. Great note too.

Interesting exercise of Emile...Olá Kath, this is quite a wonderful framing of the tower. I mean, you found a beautiful window through the "forest" of palmtrees. Luckily the threatening dark sky makes a good contrast with the whitish tower under the sunlight. That's a big scary storm approaching to ruin your day...The WS is very impressive and an imposing architecture I wasn't expecting.

Hi Kath,
The warm and yet foreboding colours are fantastic, for me made special by the rich yellow within the palm trees which lighten it up a great deal. The level of sharpness throughout the shot it good work, although I do agree like some others that it's better without the umbrellas in the foreground. Such a lovely shot, thanks for showing! Regards

A nicely composed shot, Kath, and I especially like the contrast of the palm on the left against the stormy sky. You've selected your POV perfectly not to let the palm fronds obscure the church tower. That D300 is producing excellent technical quality (I guess you will be saving up for the new D700 soon!) Cheers . . . David

Hello Kath,
Well if someone had to be sent there and asked to make a picture describing the place, I am not sure that he could have donne better. I see the way you cropped just where the tents start, and they do not disturb the view but add instead. Well done Kath..These pictures of Dalmatia are making me nervous, and when I see such good ones, I always think that I should have been there already, and blame myself for nor organizing a trip.

Wonderful POV through these lush green and yellow palm trees to the lovely old church and silver blue sky.
Sharpness, details and clarity are right on the money in the non typical European scene that looks like Central America.
