salut joanathan!
i think this would've been a good situation to do a multiple exposure composite shot (hdr?)
i tried to lighten the darker area but because it was underexposed, it resulted in a lot of noise as you can see in the workshopped version.

Hello JC,
A nicely animated image of these people enjoying a cool drink in the shade whilst the temperature outside soars. You have handled the contrasting lighting situation very well. I like the repeating motifs of the arches, which are mirrored on the other side of the square.
