Dear Boris, welcome to TE.
I think this is a good picture with minor mistakes. Crop a little part of the bottom and the right side, so that the port is directly at the side. The colours are not really there due to the "bad" weather. Please see my workshop for it. BTW a note is always welcome ! The point of view is great :)

Dear Boris,
Welcome to TE!
I read CVTJan's critique, seen his workshop and read your reply to it. Here's my opinion:
Overall, the truth IS that your original seems like there's a thin dark layer over it and therefore doesn't appeal to an observer. Because you haven't left any note with your photo and (I asume) CVTJan overlooked these tiny little lights in windows, he did what he did.
However, if I may suggest, in case you want to get most of the effect of sunset light vs. artificial light (in town), try capturing not so distant subject[s] as you have with this wide-angle shot.
Anyway, I'll give you 2 points because of the idea and choosing a good spot for this shot of Hvar (was that the Tower above the town?)
Good luck!
