Photographer’s Note
Kozala, a part of the town of Rijeka, as seen from the bridge over the Rjecina/Fiumara/Eneo river.
Apartment buildings are from the late seventies - early eighties, while not so far away from them should be remains of the ancient Roman "Limes", a stone wall border line , marking the Eastern extents of the Roman Empire somewhere around the turn BC/AD...
This "border tradition" was very alive until the middle of the 20th century, for Rijeka was divided between (then) kingdoms of Italy and Yugoslavia. Kozala (shown here) was Italian, while the left bank of the river (here shown on the right side of the picture) was called Sušak, and belonged to Yugoslavia.
This year marks 70 years since the Paris Peace Treaty, that united two parts of the town into one.
