Plitvice Lakes National Park is a jewel that during the trip to Croatia, you can not miss. Crystal clear lakes karst, interconnected network of streams and waterfalls, surrounded by forests and rich vegetation create a unique landscape. This place is simply a must see!

Piltwickie Lake is the oldest national park of Croatia, was founded in 1949. The complex is located 16 karst lakes and more than 90 waterfalls, including the highest waterfall in Croatia - Veliki Slap, which is simply the Great Falls (78 m high). Live there 140 species of birds, 15 species of bats, wild animals such as wolves, bears, foxes, martens, badgers, deer, wild boar, deer, lynx, described more than a thousand species of plants. Park is open all year.

This natural wonder was created by karst phenomena, or leaching of limestone and dolomite by water. Lakes are separated by natural dams of travertine, arising as a result of precipitation of calcium carbonate. It is for them to create stunning waterfalls. Lake water color varies depending on the mineral content, vegetation and the angle of incidence.

Park is divided into two parts: the Upper Lakes and Lower Lakes. The Upper Lakes formed by the collapse of the ceilings of underground caves and flooding them through the water. In this section, there is a lake Kozjak - the largest of the entire complex. The Lower lakes formed in the limestone canyon. The greatest impression is there a high limestone rocks, the white, in combination with the blue color of the water gives a nice visual effect. Attraction of the park are caves and grottos - some of them are available for tourists, you just have to remember to bring your own flashlight.

Plitvice Lakes are best explored on foot. Routes are available with varying degrees of difficulty and length of time that the transition from 2 to 8 hours. A must at least approach the Great Falls and Lake Kozjak. The wooden bridge built just above the waterline make us feel in touch with nature and walk takes an additional charm. You can use the train ride along the shores of lakes, but then we will see only a fraction of Plitvice. On the lake Kozjak you can go on a short boat ride walking.
