Photographer's Note

In the 70's, when Marshal Tito ruled yet, it seemed that the Serbian and Croatian people are inextricably linked. This view turned out to be tragically false. Croatia declared independence in June 1991, recognized by the European public in January 1992. Yugoslav federal government created by the Serbs did not recognize the independence of the country and cruel fight broke out. In January 1992, contained a covenant and Croatia began to develop as an independent state. However, in this period, a large part of Serbs captured the Croatian territory, and mixed Serbo-Croatian regions of initiation of "ethnic cleansing". Thousands of Croats were forced to leave homes, and one-third of the territory of Croatia declared independent state - Serbian Krajina. Ethnic cleansing marked by extraordinary cruelty, and their victims have died, tens of thousands of people. When the conflict deepened, the United Nations sent troops there. However, fighting continued until March 1994, when the Croatian government and Serbian Krajina government signed the covenant. But if the Croatian government announced categorically that does not guarantee the independence of the Serbian Krajina and do not allow her to connect with Serbia. That is why the UN peacekeeping force in the country and were controlled primarily a buffer zone between the Croatian and Serbian nationalist forces. In August 1995 the Croats joined the powerful counterattack and drove hundreds of thousands of Serbs from the Krajina. Suddenly, it turned out that this favorite of the West (mainly the U.S. and Germany), Croats outweigh the cruelty of the Serbs. The ethnic cleansing was carried out even on a larger scale,,, famous'' here a particularly General Ante Gotowina that does not personally abhor killing civilians. Serbian Citizens, whose family lived in Krajina for centuries, fled or were driven out en masse from their homes, and sometimes even murdered. Here, only it turned out to be hypocritical and biased Western countries. The United Nations did not hide satisfaction that much better armed Croatian troops won the territory. As evidenced by the recent decision by the Hague Tribunal for War Crimes in Croatia declaring Croatian war criminals innocent, and today, this bias is not reduced.
