Photographer's Note
In the 70's, when Marshal Tito ruled yet, it seemed that the Serbian and Croatian people are inextricably linked. This view turned out to be tragically false. Croatia declared independence in June 1991, recognized by the European public in January 1992. Yugoslav federal government created by the Serbs did not recognize the independence of the country and cruel fight broke out. In January 1992, contained a covenant and Croatia began to develop as an independent state. However, in this period, a large part of Serbs captured the Croatian territory, and mixed Serbo-Croatian regions of initiation of "ethnic cleansing". Thousands of Croats were forced to leave homes, and one-third of the territory of Croatia declared independent state - Serbian Krajina. Ethnic cleansing marked by extraordinary cruelty, and their victims have died, tens of thousands of people. When the conflict deepened, the United Nations sent troops there. However, fighting continued until March 1994, when the Croatian government and Serbian Krajina government signed the covenant. But if the Croatian government announced categorically that does not guarantee the independence of the Serbian Krajina and do not allow her to connect with Serbia. That is why the UN peacekeeping force in the country and were controlled primarily a buffer zone between the Croatian and Serbian nationalist forces. In August 1995 the Croats joined the powerful counterattack and drove hundreds of thousands of Serbs from the Krajina. Suddenly, it turned out that this favorite of the West (mainly the U.S. and Germany), Croats outweigh the cruelty of the Serbs. The ethnic cleansing was carried out even on a larger scale,,, famous'' here a particularly General Ante Gotowina that does not personally abhor killing civilians. Serbian Citizens, whose family lived in Krajina for centuries, fled or were driven out en masse from their homes, and sometimes even murdered. Here, only it turned out to be hypocritical and biased Western countries. The United Nations did not hide satisfaction that much better armed Croatian troops won the territory. As evidenced by the recent decision by the Hague Tribunal for War Crimes in Croatia declaring Croatian war criminals innocent, and today, this bias is not reduced.

Hi Jozef !
An excellent photograpgh, a reminder of a devastating conclusion of a war, both, human and infrastructural wise. If this shot was taken in B&W, I would think it comes from the after-math of the WW 2. TFS!

Hello Josef,
Without getting entangled in the politics, this is a fine shot; good use of guides, the focal figure is strongly positioned, whilst the details and the colours all help to create a most interesting scene.
Have a lovely Sunday,
Bev :-)

Witaj!
Smutny obraz ale w kolorze...
Ciekawe czy ten dom stoi tak do dzi¶, czy został odbudowany?
Ładny kadr a rowerzysta dodaje uroku tej kompozycji.

Hello Jozef,
A memory of your trip that also has an editorial value.
Travelling through a region with many war testimonies gives another dimension to the travel report.
The quality of the scan is very good: bright and colourful. The devastated house is taken from a good angle.
Best regards, Paul

Very nice capture of this country scene! Sorry to hear about the struggle the people have to go through, as human beings with power to reason you'd think we should be able to avoid war. But I guess we will never learn. TFS.

Hi Jozef,
Beautiful image the old & the new - I do like the colours of your photo showing the rich colours of the decaying home & the vegetation that is fast engulfing it.
The chappy on the bike seems only aware of you taking his photo which adds a modern touch to the rest of your image.
I have read your interesting notes & always when I read - hear & see terrible conflicts I find it so difficult to understand why these tragic events throughout the World & time have to happen - I am a peacemaker I hate violence in any shape or form - we should all try harder to make peace with each other & maybe then we can make peace with ourselves - What lessons are we teaching our children - hatred & violence is not the way it should be & certainly is not a healthy way to teach the young.
Thank you for your notes I always find them extremely interesting.
Kindest regards,
Dawn.

Czesc,
byc moze ta ruina to slad niedawnej wojny, bdb dokument. To o czym piszesz jest poruszajace. Obie strony nie maja czystych sumien. Mnie sie skojarzylo z mordowaniem Polakow na Wolyniu, sprawa o ktorej nasz rzad niechetnie mowi. Dobry skan i kolory.
Milego dnia.
