Photographer’s Note

Motovun is a village in central Istria, Croatia and the birthplace of legendary race car driver Mario Andretti.
It is a medieval town situated on a hill 270 m above sea level with houses scattered all over the hill.
It is a typical example of Venetian colonial architecture. The city gate dates from the 15th century.
The city wall dates from the 12-13th century.
The town's numerous monuments simultaneously testify to its past and speak volumes of the present. There is a thirteenth-century bell-tower, a somewhat younger church and numerous palaces.
The centuries have left their traces on all of them, but also ensured continued life.
The half of the residents have Italian as their mother language.
Since 1999, Motovun has hosted a World Film Festival for independent and avant-garde films from the U.S. and Europe.
