Photographer’s Note
This is a late afternoon (early evening) view from the venetian fortress in the centre of the city towards the north where the majestic amphiteheatre - the Arena - is situated.
The Arena is the only remaining Roman amphitheatre to have four side towers and with all three Roman architectural orders entirely preserved. It was constructed in 27 BC - 68 AD and is among the six largest surviving Roman arenas in the World. A rare example among the 200 Roman surviving amphitheatres of unique technological solutions. It is also the best preserved ancient monument in Croatia.

Hello Gerrit,
A lovely evening view over the town with the amphitheatre taking pride of place. The architecture looks very attractive under the warm ambient light. The church tower provides a good counter-balance to the arena. Very good colours and sharpness.

Hello Gerrit,
I notice the lovely afternoon light, adding a warm inviting feeling to the scene!
A balanced composition and I admire the fine details in the buildings, and the amphitheatre is of course an outstanding piece of architecture...
The view is well framed by dark green vegetation!

Hi Gerrit!
The best light of the day and you found a great POV to present us the town.
This amphitheatre looks huge and the churchtower is good for the balance of the image.

Bonjour Gerrit,
My best regards.
Daniel.

Dag, Gerrit. Een goed gekozen hoek om ons dit fantastische gebouw te tonen. Het amfitheater en de kerktoren trekken onmiddellijk de aandacht aan. Zeer mooi licht.
Ik wens je een prettige dag,

Hi Gerrit
I see strong Italian architectural influences here, both the amphiteheatre & the spire at right, which resembles the one in Venice at St Marks. Good high pov, with superb colour & sharpness. Tfs!

Hi Gerrit
The light is great painting the buildings in pastel hues. The tower on the left dominates, but the amphitheater also looks in fine condition. Fine cluster of buildings framed naturally with the foliage from your POV. Well done!
