Photographer’s Note
Here's a story about the town Motovun, pictured here...
A people of giants were living in these parts of Istrian peninsula, at peace and understanding with locals, helping and defending them...
Then, a sneaky Venetian prince succeeded in implementing a plan to conquer the area, by poisoning the giants and attacking the town.
The only one survining giant, called Veli Jože, was taken prisoner and chained inside a Venetian galleon. After escaping from slavery, he came back to Motovun, and it is said that he still roams the area...
This is the story how I remember it. Originally, it's author is famous Croatian writer Vladimir Nazor. However, many people think that the story is an "original" folk legend: it was enough when one Croatian magazine ran a hoax story about "Giant human bones found in Motovun area!", that there were those saying "Of course! The legend is true!"
