Another cliche, so much so that I believe the Lonely Planet guide now has this exact photo on its guide to Croatia.....but I took this way before that was published. Sorry about the image quality, the water was smoothed by Neat Image, the imperfections near the top are distant waves, this was cropped from the original to remove the horizon and the uninteresting white sky above it. I can upload the original if anyone wants to see it.

Nice, Tan. It is a well done shot, even if the perspective is familiar to you. I have gotten a few comments from people who miss the sky on shots like this. I think they like it for orientation. But in this case I don't think its necessary. I like the composition very much just as it is.
P.S. Thanks for the memories. I spent a few days in Dubrovnik in '85 but I don't have any photos from there.

Tan I picked out a great shot from the gallery and found it to be your handiwork. To me this view is one where one rarely finds in ones lifetime. Contrasting yellow foreground floral with the red clay rooftops in a deep blue sea background. A sight to behold for sure. A great viewpoint to have lunch with a friend!

Flowering plants at FG, 'introduce' the beautiful townscape at coastal area down there...
Very nicely composed. Great picture.

Ces images de Dubrovnik sont toujours aussi belles avec cette vue plongeante sur une architecture exceptionnelle. Ici les couleurs sont splendides avec ces fleurs au premier plan.

Very nice composition, Tan! Your use of limited DOF created an interplay between the FG and BG, making this picture an interesting one. Composition is very good, Dubrovnik popoing in between the flowers...cliche, or not, this is a lovely picture w/o the horizon.
A very nice one!

oke the quality is not so high,
but the photograph work is very nice, it is a well taken shot and the flower do it very good in the composition, very nice view, good job Tan.

Each guy coming to Dubrovnik cross this place and shot the same photo. I have the same one, lol :-)
Despite this view is very common, it's a great shot and the view over this fantastic town is each time very impressive. Presence of the colored foreground have a high positive impact in this shot.

A lovely, sunny view of Dubrovnik. The composition is excellent, I like a lot the flowers in the foreground. Also the repetition of all the roofs of the city is really nice. Good work!
PixelTerror (0) 2006-07-08 6:44
Yep the PoV is not that original and the quality is a bit down but I agree with Bibi you at least made the effort to add a colorful foreground !
Have a nice week end,

Hi Tan - again, it's another good high viewpoint. I like the way you've used the flowers in the foreground as a natural frame, they add in some extra colour to the shot.
It's not a place I'm familiar with so I can't comment on the 'cliche' aspect of the photo! But I like it. It would be interesting to see the original as a workshop, just for comparison (seeing as you offered!).

I've noticed that there are several photos of Dubrovnik taken from this angle in the TE gallery, but yours is the only one that has these lovely flowers in the foreground. They make a colorful and natural frame and the baot going off in the distance is also a plus. Great colors as usual!
Have a nice week-end.

Tan, tu as fait du beau travail pour arriver à ce beau résultat. J'aime le premier plan avec les fleurs pour présenter ce port au pied de la falaise.

Given how you've treated your negatives it's a good thing you've got a digital camera now ;-)
Apart from the damaged water, the shot is stunning with the bright yellow flowers in the foreground and the rich red rooves of the town. I wish my film of this place hadn't been stolen although the light wasn't as good at the time.

great view of this wonderful place. The spring flowers and the boay are interesting elements.
gilou530 (34) 2006-07-08 17:55
belle vue aérienne de cette magnifique ville de dubrovnik, les fleurs du premier plan sont bien a propos et les couleurs saturées comme d'hab
Kenny10pin (19301) 2006-07-08 19:24
great place and the pov is really nice too, I bet you could sit there just looking for a long time, well done
ChrisJ (100112) 2006-07-08 21:47
I like the "s" shape outlines in the compo. Excellent color & sharpness, & a superb pov. Good to see that the damage during the 1990'S Balkans war was minimal.
Angshu (56060) 2006-07-10 0:54
Wonderful POV (at the cost of my being repetative on this)..great how you used the flowers in the FG to lead us to this amazingly picturesque town. The qulaity is not your standard & you've explained that....but the compo. overrides everything.
dsidwell (9783) 2006-07-10 14:11
Hello Tan. I do enjoy the deep depth of field here, with the flowers so close and the city so far, but all in focus. Nice work!
zeca (19762) 2006-07-11 0:30
Nice postcard! Excelent POV and colours. Everything is so contrasting! That flowers, the blue waters, the sky, and that roofs! Well done capture!
tcht (7565) 2006-07-11 7:50
I've not seen this before so it's not a 'cliche' to me ;)
I like the framing very much. The flowers work really nice with those Middle Ages roofs of the town. Good vantage point from mountain. Amazing epths and details. Nicely done!
rbcy1974 (20758) 2006-07-11 8:24
Yes this is an uberphotographed place, but still you achieve your master landscaper touch in here by achiving a good framing with the flowers and great deph, well done
PS any details on your european trip?
Stepan (27210) 2006-07-11 17:53
I suppose this must be a magic place... Your pov is excellent (as usual) to appreciate the whole area : the city, the sea, the moutains, the colors, even the warmth... I have to go there !!
MarekP (4750) 2006-07-12 16:35
It is a nicely composed postcard photo with pleasant colours. A good idea to take a look on the town from this high PoV. If it was sharper, it would be perfect.
veronika (6052) 2006-07-25 4:54
And i have the same picture too :))
Well seen Tan, i´ll put it to each croatian
travel-catalouqe, a beautiful place :)
hispic (9652) 2008-03-27 1:24
These lovely flowers in the foreground look attractive against the blue background. The colour of the roofs is also really beautiful.
Have a nice day, Hisashi
