Photographer's Note

This is my first picture from my latest trip to Dubrovnik.I know the view from Srd Mountain you can see here is probably the most popular view of Dubrovik´s old town,but I just could not resist to upload it.
It´s HDR shot taken with 3 different exposures tonemapped in Photomatix.I hope you like it.

this is an incredible view over the coast and the city. the elevated view is superb. i love the light illuminating the roof tops as it has produced some beautiful colours. excellent depth of field.

Perfect unobstructed view of the old Dubrovnik and the Lokrum island. I like how the rocks on the foreground echo to the ramparts below. The picture is well detailed with bright and natural colours.

I am glad that the damage during the Balkans War was not irreparable. A magnificent high pov with good sharpness & superb framing. I love the intense blue color of the sea contrasting against the re roofs of the houses. Tfs!

a great comeback with a wonderful picture, great job with the HDR, I love the light and colors, the place is lovely and your POV and the focal length of 18 mm show it very well, perhaps since you were on tripoid could close a little more aperture for more depth, but it's still a great shot, beautiful contrast between the red roofs and the wonderful color of the sea, a fascinating snap...i hope to see early same more picture of your trip...

Hi Krzystof,
Haven't seen your pics for a while, so you've been to Dubrovnik? Awesome place, I loved it a lot. Yes this view is very popular, I have my version of it too but it can't boast of the same top quality as yours and it was taken on film yet. I like your shot a lot especially that you mentioned it's an HDR and it absolutely doesn't look like one:) I mean HDR often looks unnatural and too graphic/sharp here on TE but your shot proves the opposite, it looks pretty natural and awesome. I would only suggest the distortion correction on the horizon line.

I cannot agree more with Marina! Its hard to believe & unless you mentioned that this was a HDR. Excellent & natural, its as if we are looking down at the fortified city with the slanting rays of the sun illuminating the jewel like city. Excellent work & congratulations on your fine HDR work!

Bio sam vise puta u Dubrovnik dok smo jos bili SFR Jugoslavija, ostao mi je u lepom secanju.
Lep pogled sa brda na stari grad i pucinu, dobra kompozicija.
Dobar snimak, kontrast i prikaz lepim bojama.
Lep stari grad, mnogo mi se svidja, nadam se da cu imati prilike da ga ponovo vidim.

Byłem w Dubrownik kilka razy kiedy byliśmy jeszcze SFR Jugosławii, ja zostałem w dobrej pamięci.
Ładny widok ze wzgórza Starego Miasta i na otwartym morzu, dobra kompozycja.
Dobry strzał, ładny kontrast i kolorowy wyświetlacz.
Ładne stare miasto, bardzo lubię, mam nadzieję, że możliwość zobaczenia go.

I was in Dubrovnik several times while we were still SFR Yugoslavia, I was left in good memory.
Nice view from the hill of the old town and the open sea, a good composition.

ten widok jest istotnie znany i fotografowany, ale to jeden z najpiekniejszych widoków jakie widziałam i trudno się oprzeć i nie zrobic jeszcze paru zdjęć. Ladna kompozycja zza kamieni, fantastyczny widok miasta w dole. Piekne spokojne morze.

This is a superb high angle view showing this beautiful coastal town. Excellent color contrast between the blue rocks , blue sea and the red roofs. The sharpness and depth are superb. I like that misty atmosphere.

The view is overwhelming, as this town from every angel is enchanting.
Your HDR maintained the photo in it's natural texture, (according to the new rules on TE about HDR's), and the result is most fabulos.

well done with the hdr, its not overblown with unrealistic colors.
the blues and greens tend to be the most difficult colors in terms of saturation, but it turned out well in this one.
as for the POV, normally we do see the higher elevation shot, but its a bit lower down. this is my first time seeing it from an even higher spot.
did you enjoy your time here? was it really busy with tourists in May? and how about the weather in May? just curious.

Of course , this is a very famous view . But your capture of it is splendid , especially for the light management , with the white rocks in the shade in the FG . May be it woul have been better if the island have not been cut , but I suppose that it was not possible .

I`ve never seen Dubrovnik from this high POV before. What seems to be early morning light creates a nice atmosphere and shadows that enhances the details in the scene. I like the way you framed the shot with the foreground rocks. A pity with the distortion of the horizontal line, but the overall impression is great and truly beautiful. Wonderful:) TFS.

Zdravo Krzysztof. One of the most panoramic views of Dubrovnik that I have ever seen and I can still detect lots of details inside and around the city walls.Lovely light- not too strong so that the shadows are soft. Pozdrawiam. Klaudio.

Wspania³y widok na miasto - Per³ê Adriatyku. Gdy by³em tam te¿ nosi³em siê z my¶la wej¶cia na góry nad miastem, ale by³ taki upa³ ,¿e odpu¶ci³em , czego dzisiaj ¿a³ujê. Przepiêkna panorama w cudownym ¶wietle i kolorystyce.

this bird view on the wonderful city of Dubrovnik is really spectacular, and less adapted for the one who suffers dizziness.
There is a good balance between the light and the shades, and the colors have a few nice warm tonalities, which emphasize the beauty of the architecture of this city.
I believe that the HDR is managed well, you have reached a good chromatic level and a good contrast, and it is difficult in this kind of works.

Hi Krzysztof,

Yes, I do like it...the elevated viewpoint appears to show the curve of the the earth on the horizon. Very good exposure to show the details in the shaded areas as the late sunlight hits the city perfectly to create great contrast of orange and blue. This vantage point also helps to show the city's natural surroundings and placement on the sea front, well composed. Bravo!

You have such good shooting angle from this high pov, its an eye catching view this coastal town has to offer and the warmly lit houses is attractive enough for a shot like this as they stand out so strikingly. The evening warm light, brilliant coloring and the open view blue water all collaborate to turn this looks so pleasing and charming. Superb effort, well done. Congrats
