Photographer’s Note

I am still going through a Dalmatian phase- one reason being that posting such photos helps me remember my trip, the second being that as there are no other Dalmatians active on TE, there are not many photos from this region of the world.

This scene is taken from the city wall, as was my previous shot. One disadvantage of having high walls is that there is little privacy for those people inside the city who live close to the walls. Walking along these fortifications one ends up looking over people's backyards and even sometimes on is looking directly at a window.
Still, there is so much to admire. I love both the play of light as the evening approaches and the two houses with the very old roof tiles.
I decided to crop the sky and the mountain as there was too much glare.

Another eye-cathing composition! Well done! The high viewpoint was truly an excellent choice in here! Sharpness is excellent, exposure is totally correct and colors are natural and beautiful! Great depth of field! I can clearly see all the interesting details both in the foreground and in the background! Rooftops and walls are almost touchable! Sunlight over them is a real highlight in this image! I like it a lot!

Hi Neighbour, Two very different shots from us today! I like this one, great textural and architectural detail in the houses close by and the BG gives us the idea of many of these picturesque dwellings forming a town, with a glimpse of the water giving context to the town. Nice work - makes me wish I'd spent more time in Europe. cheers, Steve

Great shot that reminds me the marvelous walk I made a few years ago around the ramparts of Dubrovnik. The view is so breathtaking, and the architecture so typical.
I like your excellent framing to bring these red tiled roofs out, and the very fine sharpness lets appreciate many details of this beautiful architecture.
Good work on colours and contrast too, it's an eyecatching picture.

splendid this panoramic shot of Dubrovnik,in the foreground we can see a lot of details of the yards and the roofs of the natives,as the far end, that we can see the part of the city that is found out of the walls.Well done.

Hi Klaudio,
I like the way you have crowded the foreground buildings into the main frame and left a small amount of frame for the distant buildings and hills. Even without seeing the city walls in shot you give an excellent impression of how crowded together the houses really are in these fortified towns.
Lovely light, the details are picked out well with the contrasting shadows.
A wonderful look at a famous and intriguing city.

Caro Klaudio, this photo is a winner for me. Wow what a shot. And I love the inclusion of the washing in the FG, it's so European! Beautiful Mediterranean light, tones and architecture. A beautiful view of a dreamy town that it's well on top of my (long) list of places I want to visit. I like the perspective, the framing/cropping and the intimacy/life touch given by the sneak sight of the yard bellow.

It's nice to see this view from the Dubrovnik city wall. I was there last year and was fascinated by the private houses and apartments just below the wall, totally exposed to the glares of the tourists. I wondered, but didn't for some reason ask anyone, if these are attractive apartments fetching exorbitant prices on the market, or poor leftovers from older days where most people wouldn't like to live now.
The fine light and the saturation have made the best of the texture of the walls, and I just love the roof of the grey house in the centre of the picture.
