Hidden in the courtyard behind the Sheraton Hotel, amid remains of the ancient town of Serdica is one of the highlights of Sofia, The Rotunda of St George. It was constructed in Roman times, in the first half of the 4th century and painted several times in different ages (the 4th, 10th to 12th and 14th centuries). The majestic figures illustrate the development of monumental painting over several centuries, making the Rotunda one of the gems of Bulgaria.
