Hidden in the courtyard behind the Sheraton Hotel, amid remains of the ancient town of Serdica is one of the highlights of Sofia, The Rotunda of St George. It was constructed in Roman times, in the first half of the 4th century and painted several times in different ages (the 4th, 10th to 12th and 14th centuries). The majestic figures illustrate the development of monumental painting over several centuries, making the Rotunda one of the gems of Bulgaria.

Szia Attila,

Hi Attila,
I was there in 2002. What a remarkable site. My camera was stolen so I could not take it with me (except in my head).
I liked the embedding in that huge communistic block and the contrast it provides. You maneged to get that out very well. And ofcourse is it a top
example of pre-romanesc Christian architecture.
Regards, Gerrit

Ciao Attila,

Hello Attila,
nice shot of the Rotunda of St.George with the ruins of other constructions near it.An old church that survived through the centuries and its found in a fine condition. Excellent the management of the light and the colors too.Well done.

Hello Attila,
well, every day I see this place on the road to my work, but I've never supposed that can be seen and organized in composition like this. I've considered that the modern building behind the church will disturb one picture, but actually you've made a very good picture just because of the contrast between modern and antic!
Best Regards, Silvia

Ciao Attila,

Hello Attila,
Good to see you back after a big while away. As usual when I come to your gallery I find something different and I learn something from what I see thru your notes.
Nice little story and mix of architectural kinds in this note and photo.
As Gerrit says its interesting to watch how the 'Rotunda' seems to embed with the surrounding building.
What really bithers me are those signs of modernity on the wall (i'm speaking of course of the air conditioners boxes spreaded on the walls) but this is not your fault...
Cheers.

Olyan ez a látvány, mintha a kis templom a hotel belső udvarán lenne! ((: Egyébként tetszik aszimmetrikus elrendezés, amit egy kicsit megtör a fény.
Várom a további képeket Bulgáriából!!

Ciao Attila,
bentornato, dopo tanto tempo.
