Photographer’s Note
I went through my old photos and found a few I made last year at the Rila monastery. It is the biggest monastery complex in Bulgaria and probably the most visited one, included in the UNESCO world heritage list. It was established by St. Ivan Rilski in the beginning of the Xth century.
The monastery had been burned and destroyed many times during the Ottoman rule but constructed again. Nowadays it looks more like a fortress from the outside than a monastery, but that's how it was in past times.
The construction on the photo is the Hrelio tower - the only remain of the complex as it was in 1355 after the reconstruction made by the feodal protosevast Hrelio Dragovol. On the top of the tower there is a small chapel with old murals. The part seen from on the photo looks newer and in fact I think I've read somewhere that it was added later. Nowadays in the lower part of this extension is used as a souvenir shop for icons, consecrated silver crosses and postcards.
About the photo techniques: I used the selective colour tool to increase a little bit the colour depth of the sky. The light was very strong so I also decreased it a little so the details could be seen better.
I hope you like it!
